I cannot work in feet, I can only compare the heights when they are in meters.

I don't see anything at all appealing in the bland models the Times has made. 21st C Tower Blocks is an accurate description of that model.
And I think letting awful Times mock rendering be our only representation of the project would have a negative effect on the whole project running up to any official design release in April.

Stellar needs to release an official rendering (even if it's only a small one) to counter any overbearing tower blocks argument that EH is going to make in every article about this project for the next 2 months.

They could propose the Chrysler Building, the Gherkin and the Turning Torso all in a row and EH would STILL be blabbing on about 'tower blocks'. They have no eye for aesthetics when it comes to anything build after the early 20th Century.

well, mock up makes me rather think of what we seen on page one of this thread:

Obviously there's miles in terms of realism and quality between this and the latest graphics by the Times, so I would assume they not only seen some official renders but were also allowed to integrate them into their graphics of the neighbourhood including the shard but maybe you are right and they really work at that quality level at the Times, we gonna see..

hmm, that's like the complete opposite reaction to anybody else's on here. You're not EH in disguise by any chance, are you?

(bear in mind this is probably a Sunday times mock up & not an official rendering)
If you ask me the only existing skyscraper in London that is even LESS a "tower block" than those 3 spike towers above is the Gherkin, but that one is certainly as non-blocky as one can be..

Listen to this audio piece at Building Design mag, one of their journalists saw the designs and has a reasonably good go at describing them.

made me wonder as well who of the two (BD or sunday times) has actually seen any renders/pictures of the project. Not only their mockups of the towers could hardly be more different but also their language in describing them - "breadsticks" vs. "spires"

well, James, hope you gonna find out more, otherwise we really will have to wait 2 more months before having the slightest clue of what these towers might look like..

Are you kidding?
You guys really think that Times rendering would be a good design for this site?
Acres of more plain glass cladding, with random heights, and random slopes.
Even the layout of the towers is unappealing, the 3 towers are squashed right up against the railway line.

The previous descriptions of the design sounded a lot more appealing.

They look a bit like the MoMA Tower proposed for NY in that mock up.

I don't see why everyone likes them so much either... I think they look bland glass boxes that happen to taper half way up. I hope the real renders are nothing like this.

right, guys, so according to you the Shard must be a bland glass box that happens to be in the shape of an elongated pyramid?

I think The Times should appeal to have their scheme rival Herzog and De Deuron's, as I think the breadsticks is a awful design without much thought + it doesn’t really look like there style to angular.

The Times scheme only needs a bit of drama and to be more complex with its shape “i.e. to boxy at the moment”. This also reminds me so much of the freedom tower with the multiple planned buildings. Love the times project tho!

Firstly, that recording is from about a month before the Sunday Times article, so hopefully it's the one that's innaccurate and out of date, and not the other way round. Absolutely love the 'Spires' concept, works amazingly with the Shard.. that area will look like some kind of spikey alien base thingy (you get the idea). However, so far I rather dislike the 'wonky stack of tin cans' so fingers crossed!

Reminds me also of the La Seu "Barcelona Cathedral" I can’t wait until they reveal the official render for the project, Only then will we get the true nature of it and what class of building were getting here.
