Well spotted, they shifted the entrance a bit east to the area where they spread some asphalt last week, but it looks to me like the visitor area stayed the same, at least the southern fence hasn't been moved..

![]() Yeah your right, now that the area isn't in the shade it looks like the open space is the same. I wonder what they are doing that they moved the entrance.

Are they waiting to open the rest of the plaza until the museum opens? Because its taking them like 1,000 years to finish that last part, they are like inching their way around with the stone.

Just about everything about this NE section of the plaza has been so slow. It will be interesting to see how they put the soil in the spaces underneath. In other parts of the plaza they put the soil down first, then formed and poured the concrete slab above the soil. It appears that two trees next to the north pool have died (red box) and possibly a third one (yellow box). The next three in the same row as the red box don't look healthy. No trees died last year that I know of. One tree next to the south pool died year before last and was replaced. I noticed most of the trees bordering the north pool were slower to grow their leaves this spring than most of the other trees: Possible causes for the delayed leafing and poor health/death?: - Anti-icing chemicals put down on the plaza next to the pool in the winter to prevent mist from the pool from freezing on the plaza. - Chemicals (to prevent algae, etc.) in the pool water, which blows onto the plaza. - Too much water. (Probably not likely given that these are swamp white oaks.) I actually find it amazing that more plaza trees haven't had to be replaced by now. At my university about three dozen trees (about 15 to 20 feet tall) were planted this winter near a new library. The other day I counted six oak trees that have already died. They grew new leaves, which then suddenly died and fell off. .

These trees are still very young and in what I'd call an extreme environment. As long as they dont die everything will be fine. In ten-twenty years they will dominate this view of the memorial and color it all green from above.

if there is any trouble with them - trust me they are going to be swiftly replaced. Besides, if planted right, nothing dies in NYC with its humid, hot climate. It is like ideal for plants.

I know you can bring cameras to the 9/11 memorial, but what about tripods?

They created a wooden path on the NE part of the plaza. Maybe this is for the small vehicle which was used for the transport of the trees in places where the cranes couldn't reach? This would mean new trees should arrive soon
