Restaurants

Where do you fine people like to eat?

I like Boston Blackies myself, since I'm in Elk Grove I tend to frequent the Arlington Heights location but when I'm downtown sometimes I find myself headed down Canal, my dads work is just a block or so away, Jacobs Engineering, so if I go visit him, I usually wander over there.

For Ice Cream I'm fond of Margies over on Western.

I love Philly's Best over on Belmont, I have yet to find anything decent in the Suburbs,

This will probably get me yelled at but for Pizza I really like Wapaghetti's in Wheeling, I can't remember the last time I went into the city for pizza.

And ya gotta love Lou Mitchells, so good.

As far as the food goes, Keefers rivals Mortons, and the Chop House...However, in my opinion, the atmosphere is much better at Keefers.

I used to love Biggs' mansion on Dearborn and Division. I almost had a heart attack when it closed.

I love Nine steakhouse and all of the restaurants on Wells St. from Goethe to Euginie. None of them are five star, but it is a very nice collection of different types of foods, and you generally can assume the tourists won't be around for the most part.

Here are my favorites in the city, by culture:

Thai/Mexican - in all honesty, any
Lebanese - Semirami's on Kedzie
Scandinavian - Tre Kronor on Foster
Ethiopian - Ethiopian Diamond on Broadway
Greek - Greek Islands on Halsted
Persian - Cafe Suron on Pratt
South Asian - tie amongst most of the joints on Devon

Alas, I find the Chinese and Japanese places in suburbia better: standouts are Jockey Wok 'n Roll in Hoffman Estates and Kurumaya in Elk Grove.

Now, can someone recommend an Italian, Jamaican, Vietnamese, and/or Peruvian place?

Here's some, give them a try:

Sabatino's - Italain on the northwest side, on the corner of Irving Park and Pulaski

L Woods- Lincolnwood on the corner of Lincoln and Touhy. Used to be Bones for those from the area. Outstanding food, whatever you want they have.

Monasteros'- Chicago on Devon/Pulaski, great great great food, so good I had my wedding reception there

Zia's- Arabiatta is the best ever, Edison Park

Mr Beef- Harlem and Irving, also downtown, get the Juicy Beef

quote from trvlr70 in ssp

Overall, Chicago has more 5-diamond restaurants than any oher US city, according to AAA. The honor is accorded to just a tiny fraction of the nearly 60,000 properties that AAA inspects in the US, Canada, Mexico and the Carribbean.

The new Chicago 7:

Arun
Charlie Trotter's
Everest
Seasons Restaurant(in the Four Seasons Hotel)
True
Avenues(in the Peninsula Hotel)
Alinea

Eat up, folks.

Eppys..best deli in town, 224 E Ontario

Eleven City Diner in South loop.

Seafood: Devon at [email protected] (also one in Boston I think)
I'm not a fan of the decor for the main dining area (looks like a tacky cruise ship) but the seafood is amazing, If you go ask for a side cove table, you end up with a very intimate private cove for 4 that has a lot more modern decor than main dining area.

Best mexican hands down:
De Cero 814 W. Randolph St. (really inexpensive too)
Best mexican fast food: Qboda

Cheap and good Italian..Scoozi.
Best Fast Italian: Go Roma. (its a chain but very tasty)

Has anyone tried: Nacional 27 or DeLaCosta?
I've been meaning to try them.

I love that place. Probably the best taqueria I've been to. Frontera grill is also awesome.

Also, great to hear someone else loves Nunna Kabob.
