The new Germany: laid-back, chilled, relaxed. More southern than ever.

London Heathrow may even open its 3rd Runway before this opens, then again that is also a serious joke. The UK version of Berlin Brandenburg.

Same with Frankfurt Terminal 3. Used to be a joke that T3 might open even before BER. But now its actually a completely realistic possibility.

it is unbelievable that this is happening in Germany, a country that once was the at the front of infrastructure planning, construction and execution. Before when countries wanted to construct complicated infrastructure project they always went to Germany for the expertise, now it looks like its gone 180 degrees, Germany having to import the expertise

Most important subject in some German schools, especially in Berlin, became deescalating conflict pilot. Soft skills FTW. There are bigger challenges than engineering a third airport out of town

It took Munich around 12 years to build their new airport in the 1980s and I thought _that_ was bad at the time.

official i took 12 years for MUC, but in reality the airport was built in 7 years complete from zero

1980 offical start - was stopped from law court
1985 building was allowed from court issue and real started
1992 finished & opened

Thanks for that. Munich Airport was also a brand new green field build where Brandenburg is a new terminal for the existing Schonefeld Airport really.

But at least we know Germans can build a complete airport in 7 years flat....if they really want to that is.

BER is not a terminal addition to Scheonefeld, its really a complete and brand new airport build next to the old one.

True. The problems and delays are solely caused by the terminal however.
