Sheffield Robin Hood Airport

The airport has only been open a month and already new routes have been announced. First year forcasts say 1.3M will pass through it this year and it could meet its target of 8M passengers years ahead of schedule, executives are now saying.

Its also interesting from the point of view of Peel - its owners. It seems they have judged the market perfectly and filled a gap by providing a major city like Sheffield and S Yorks with its own airlink.
I'm bit confused by their ownership of Sheffield City Airport as well, but I'm betting that is more to make sure a rival doesn't develop then anything else.

Another Peel masterstroke in the making?

You mean Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood Airport A bit of a mouthful.
Peel are good... VERY good. Hopefully their experience will make this airport a success.

its good that an airport has opened nearby Sheffield, but just goes to prove that if Sheffield City had time spent on it would have suceeded. Shame really

I'm betting the Doncaster bit won't last too long - too much of a mouthful and(no offense to doncastrians here) not that very well know nationally or internationally.

For this though, Doncaster is the primary name after Sheffield as its more Doncaster than Sheffield....

Its going to become the defacto airport for Sheffield though, thats obvious. As Sheffield is a major city it seems the most logical name to use.

It's being termed as DSA or Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Lets not get arguing on the name. It's official name is long winded and I think DSA works.

I've no doubt this airport will be become successful, it has the ability to land the A380 already and has much of the infrastructure needed for a large international airport already in place. If they can attract enough airtraffic and customers, it's got a good future.

God, you'll never get on top with that sort of atitude!

You have to make that grab for glory and relentlessly talk your city up by laying claim to every town with 20 miles - like Manchester does

We don't want Plymouth. That'd mean Birmingham and Leeds were a part of our city... *shudders*

No. Sheffield City had a small runway, and is located in the middle of urban areas - it would have never been given permission for larger jets to land even if they could use the runway. I believe the runway is being shortened further and most of the site being turned into a business park.

Peel will keep the stake until they know it isnt a threat then probably sell up.
They are supposed to have stopped three new carriers using it in the last year. It is obvious what their agenda is.
