I don't think I have ever created a thread on here, so I thought this one would be perfect! I love anything and everything about cars, and we all know BiH has a long history in the manufacturing of transportation vehicles of all sorts. I enjoy seeing this type of industry expand in BiH as it is an industry that is very viable and important to any country. Hopefully one day maybe BiH will even come out with its own brand of cars!

Anyway, please post any relevant items to the transpiration industry here.

Also, I'd be happy to make a banner, but I don't know if the name is appropriate before I do it?

Given Bosnia and Herzegovina’s rich and extensive tradition in the automotive industry, especially in production of auto components, BiH companies are renowned as suppliers of quality components. For decades, major brands have relied on the skilled workforce of BiH to assemble cars for western markets. The Volkswagen Group has recognised this tradition and Bosnia and Herzegovina is well under way to become the Group’s supply-base in South Eastern Europe, a market of 120 million consumers. The plant, located conveniently near Sarajevo, assembles Škoda and VW vehicles for the VW Group.

Prevent Sarajevo manufactures seat covers at two facilities in Zenica and Visoko. The production is primarily aimed at the French and German markets. Braking elements intended for export are manufactured for Volkswagen and Audi at Jelah.

A study by MIGA conducted in 2006 confirmed that BiH has numerous strengths in the automotive components industry, notably the availability of skilled labour in engineering and other technical areas, and well developed in-house R&D activities that make it competitive with some of Central Europe’s highest performers. With ongoing efforts focused on upgrading capacity and quality enhancement, companies in the automotive cluster are looking for investment partners to expand production into wider international markets.

The automotive supplier industry in Bosnia-Herzegovina (B&H) has experienced a very dynamic development after the end of war in former Yugoslavia. Main areas of the automotive sector are metal processing (precision turning, milling, forming), toolmaking, plastic processing, automotive electrics and automotive textiles. Thereby the highest export rates are reached by the metal processing sector with an export rate of around 40% of the total production.

Renowned manufacturers such as MERCEDES, VW and MAN are among the main buyers of supplier products made in BiH. With the VW-factory in Vogosca near Sarajevo a renowned manufacturer itself is present in BiH. At this factory SKD production of various Skoda, Audi and VW-models takes place.

Privatisation of the companies is progressing fast as well. The majority of the companies in particular in the Federation is already fully privatised. Several international automotive suppliers have taken a share in BiH-companies or have taken over companies completely. The corresponding investments allowed particularly those companies a high and dynamic growth. Examples of this trend are the companies TMD Ai, (subsidiary of the Slovenian CIMOS-Group), which in the area of metal processing produces high-quality precision parts, or the filter manufacturer UNICO FILTER, which has recently been taken over by the German market leader MANN-HUMMEL. But also the investments in the fields of iron and steel production, aluminium production, production of engines and engine parts, production of plastic and rubber parts, textile and leather industry are in general related to the automotive industry.

Biggest exporter and second-largest company in the country is the Slovenian manufacturer of car seat covers, PREVENT which has several production sites in BiH for other automotive products as well and a 42% share in VW Sarajevo. About 95% of the seat covers in the VW-models Golf, Polo and Lupo are produced by PREVENT. In addition, PREVENT supplies the French manufacturers RENAULT and PEUGEOT.

BEKTO INTERNATIONAL is a modern and well-equipped manufacturer of (thermo)plastic injection parts for the automotive industry. Main companies active in the area of automotive electrics are CAJAVEC FSU, Laktasi (manfacturer of signals, relays and electronic switches) as well as ZRAK-AEO, Kiseljak (manfacturer of electronic special components).

In addition, there is a large number of manufacturers in Bosnia-Herzegovina producing a wide range of parts and components, such as brake parts and systems, clutches, engine and gear parts, steering parts and systems, aluminium wheels, drive shafts, car batteries, pumps, and various small parts such as springs, screws, hoses, and components of metal, rubber and plastic. According to the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia-Herzegovina (FTC-BiH), the export in the metal industry reached an estimated 1.134 billion Euro in 2006.

Another advantage of BiH is the relatively high density of research and development institutes, compared to the number of inhabitants. Especially the faculties of mechanical engineering of the universities of Sarajevo, Tuzla, Banja Luka, Zenica and Mostar co-operate closely with the local companies of the automotive supplier industry in a number of R&D-projects.

U "Bekto Precisi" trenutno se rade i dijelovi za "Lamborghini" i "Audi", a u skijaškoj industriji komponente za najsavremenije skijaške vezove kompanije "Fischer".

- Ne mogu puno govoriti o tom programu, ali riječ je o najsavremenijoj opremi koja će omogućavati skijašima da prate kojom brzinom voze - kaže Ćoralić.

Kompanija u vlasništvu poznatog biznismena Redže Bekte potvrđuje da su ideje i sposobnost jači od recesije, pa je u pogonima za proizvodnju dijelova od plastike, te onih u kombinaciji metal - plastika, započeta i proizvodnja za elektroindustriju.

- U Goražde je preseljena montaža englesko-austrijske kompanije "Mosdorfer", koja se bavi proizvodnjom i plasmanom dijelova za niskonaponske mreže i visokonaponske dalekovode. Ona je sada u našim pogonima i tu trenutno radi tridesetak novih radnika, ali proizvodnju prate Tvornica alata iz Goražda, Metal centar i druge bh. firme. Ovo je ogroman projekt koji se svaki dan proširuje - ističe Ćoralić.

Firma Ricson BH, novoosnovana firma sa sjedištem u Vitkovićima, bavi se proizvodnjom i montažom dijelova za putničke vozove i dio je poznate španske firme Ricson koja se bavi metalskom proizvodnjom i koja je sa svojim proizvodima prisutna na prostoru cijele Španije i zapadne Evrope.

"U početku je zaposleno pet radnika, sada ih je već 12, a do kraja godine očekujem proširenje pogona te upošljavanje još 20-tak radnika. U prošloj godini uložili smo oko 400.000 KM, a planovi u ovoj su nabavka CNC mašina te proširenje proizvodnih kapaciteta, tako da se očekuju višemilionska ulaganja", kazao je Sedin Hadžić, direktor firme Ricson BH.


Svi proizvodi ove firme tržište su našli u Španiji, a potražnja je veća od onoga što su realne mogućnosti proizvodnje u ovim trenutnim proizvodnim kapacitetima.

"Ova firma je relativno mlada i nastala je spontano. Bavi se vrlo specifičnim stvarima koje su u današnjem svijetu veliki trend. To su dijelovi za savremene vozove – kao što su klime u vozovima, odvod i dovod zraka, kao i neki dijelovi za akumulatorske baterije", kazao je Hadžić.

"Imamo mogućnost i kapacitet da se proširujemo. Već smo oformili 10 radnih mjesta za varioce i nadamo se da ćemo, sredinom ove godine, u zoni ovog objekta, čija je površina oko 2000 kvadratnih metara, sagraditi jednu novu halu za savijanje limova", dodaje on.

Mada firma postoji veoma kratko, od sredine jula 2009. godine, u doglednoj budućnosti, kaže Hadžić, ovo će biti firma za primjer.

In 1955, german NSU claimed to be the world's biggest two-wheeler manufacturer. NSU decided to make best use of the remaining motorcycle program and in 1963 an agreement with the company Pretis was concluded. Production licence and tools for Maxi motorcycles and Prima scooters went to Sarajevo.


Following the merger of VW/Audi and NSU, Volkswagen continued the cooperation with Pretis and assembled VW cars.

For a time, the NSU Prinz was produced there. 1969 NSU went on in the Volkswagen Group. Pretis 1970 in the newly founded company and has been UNIS VW general importer for Yugoslavia

UNIS – Associated Metal Industry Sarajevo was set up on 9 May 1968 with an integration of companies "PRETIS" - Vogošća, "IGMAN" - Konjic, "SLAVKO RODIĆ" - Bugojno and "POBJEDA" - Goražde, long-standing production subjects in the field of intended for a specific purpose restricted military industry.

In the beginning of the 1970s, a significant need was felt for extending UNIS production plans with introduction, apart military products, so called “market program” including cars and spare part, bearings, bicycles and other two-wheel transport means, office machines and equipment.

UNIS-founded Volkswagen Tvornica automobila Sarajevo (TAS, literally translated as Sarajevo car factory). Volkswagen AG has been involved with 49% of TAS, the remaining shares owned UNIS.

From 1970, the VW Beetle with TAS was initially assembled from kits manufactured in Germany, from 1973 as a CKD assembly. Until 1976, a total of 31,667 such units were made of the VW Beetle with TAS, which were intended solely for the Yugoslav market.

Later the VW Golf VW Golf I and II, and the VW Jetta has been produced. These vehicles carry the inscription on the front grille TAS. The VW Caddy I was built in 1983 exclusively to the CAS and exported to many countries. In 1989, the production at TAS with 37,000 cars reached a peak, then the plant had about 3,500 employees. In 1992 the production had been stopped because of the Bosnian war.

In August 1998, production was resumed. In the new company, Volkswagen owns a 58%, 42% belong to the Slovenian automotive supplier Prevent. Volkswagen Sarajevo d.o.o. produced passenger cars the brands Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda, as about 3,500 vehicles annually, with about 300 employees.
Passenger car production ended in late 2008. Since then, only parts of other works of the VW group produced. Mid-2009 also began the production of electric EcoCarrier small van, which will come mainly at airports and in the municipal sector in Germany for use

UNIS was producing cars within a production program of a Volkswagen concern, utilities vehicles, spare parts for vehicles like batteries, fuel and oil filters, pumps, grinded parts, elements of brake systems, friction material, complete rear axle, spare parts for exhaust systems, car glasses and rubber-technical products, car-electric accessories, plastic components for a car industry, etc. trough a Business Grouping Cars and spare parts, developing high level of cooperation and implementing joint investments and other types of cooperation with foreign partners.

UNIS’s production with an income of 290 million $US in 1975 increased to more than 900 million $US in 1990, or more than three times.

So, new factories were built up for production office machines, roller bearings, cars, steamed tubing, middle driven bicycles, computers, cold rolled tapes, synthetic material, rivets, steel ropes.

UNIS was built up 40 factories since the beginning of 1991.
Long-year business operations had been realized through different types of cooperation with worldwide famous producers of
bearings – SKF from Sweden,
  • cars – Volkswagen from Germany,
  • office equipment – Olympia from Germany
  • telecommunication equipment – Ericsson from Sweden
  • gas technique equipment – Singer from the USA
  • bicycles Alfred Thun from Germany and many other firms.



Since 1991, UNIS has been made 62 contracts with 47 partners from 13 countries about long-term business-technical cooperation. Ten firms with joint investments were set up and 14 agreements about investments were implemented, 37 agreements about long-term production cooperation and 8 agreements about obtaining technologies and development business-technical cooperation.

There were 88 production companies in a Holding company UNIS classified in seven business groupings by business operations.

In a Business Grouping NVO, the following products were produced: means intended for a specific purpose restricted production, economic explosive and equipment, chemical products, sport and hunting ammonisation, hunting accessories and equipment, pyrotechnics equipment, dishes and special tools.

UNIS had been producing the following products through a Business Grouping of Raw Material: cold rolled tapes, seamed and precise tubing, metal furniture, high and low carbon wires, steel ropes, wire cores, elastic pipes, compensators and beams, springs, bolts, nuts, rivets, special electrodes, polyethylene wrapping material, PVC granulation and products, colours and polishes, synthetic glues and chemicals.

FAMOS - Sarajevo

Engine Factory FAMOS-Sarajevo - Established in 1953 - , began with the manufacture of trucks under license from the Swiss company Saurer, from 1960 on their own models with Famos and Leyland diesel engines. In 1973 began the production medium trucks under license from Daimler-Benz.

Since its inception, the company based its approach to development in the production of drive units for vehicles. The current production program includes the following services:

Today Famos has the status of a corporation - in majority ownership of the state. The privatization is in process and the company it is looking for strategic partners. The company currently employs 420 people.

Famos puts its products to 90% off on the export market - the main markets are: Germany, Serbia and Montenegro, Algeria, Turkey and Iran.

The production structure is growing constantly and the proportion of components and manufacturing services in comparison to the final products as well. Because of the technology and manufacturing under license from Mercedes-Benz and ZF FAMOS has created for itself a place in a huge number of keepers of the brand Mercedes and other European manufacturers.

Auto-klaster Bosne i Hercegovine

Sada kada se najavljuje oporavak, ukazuju prilike za uključenje u proizvodnju FIAT-a i drugih kompanija iz auto-industrije u Kragujevcu, te kada je otvorena mogućnost povezivanja u regionalni klaster dolazi do opasnosti njegovog gašenja zbog izostanka finansijske podrške ovom sektoru.

Zbog trenutne krize teško je očekivati od samih kompanija da rad klastera u potpunosti same finasiraju. Sada je prava prilika da dražava bar u narednih godinu dana kao prelazni period u daljem izlasku iz recesije pomogne održavanje klastera u životu.

Važno je naglasiti da su države razvijenih zemalja posebno uključene u podršku klasterima, a mnoge od njih svoju strategiju kompletnog ekonomskog razvoja temelje na klasterima i na njihovom razvoju, jer oni povezuju mala i srednja preduzeća i jačaju industriju.

Automobilska industrija u Bosni i Hercegovini

U tom pogonu se u SKD montaži sklapaju različiti modeli marke Skoda, Audi i VW.



Privatizacija preduzeća se približava svom završetku. Većina preduzeća, posebno u Federaciji BiH, potpuno je privatizovana. Nekoliko međunarodno poznatih dobavljača iz autoindustrije imaju udjela u preduzećima iz Bosne i Hercegovine, odn. u cjelosti su ih preuzeli. Upravo ta preduzeća su sa investicijama novih vlasnika u posljednje vrijeme zabilježila velik i dinamičan rast. Primjeri ovakvog trenda su preduzeča TMD Ai (kćerka firma slovenske CIMOS grupe) koji u oblasti metaloprerade proizvodi visokovrijedne precizne dijelove ili proizvodjač filtera UNICO FILTER koji je nedavno preuzet od tržišnog lidera, njemačkog MANN+HUMMEL-a. Ali i investicije u oblasti proizvodnje željeza i čelika, proizvodnje aluminija, proizvodnje motora i dijelova za motore, dijelova od plastike i gume, tekstilne i kožne industrije su većim dijelom vezane za automobilsku industriju.



Najveci izvoznik u branši a drugi u drzavi je slovenski proizvođač presvlaka za sjedišta, PREVENT, koji u Bosni i Hercegovini ima više proizvodnih lokacija i za druge proizvode iz autoindustrije i posjeduje 42% dionica u Volkswagen Sarajevu. Oko 95% presvlaka za sjedišta za VW modele (Golf, Polo i Lupo) proizvodi se u Preventu. Pored ovoga, Prevent isporučuje presvlake i za francuske proizvođače RENAULT i PEUGEOT. Firmom BEKTO INTERNATIONAL Bosna i Hercegovina ima moderno opremljenog proizvođača brizganih dijelova od plastike i obojenih metala za autoindustriju. U oblasti autoelektrike, prije svega treba istaknuti preduzeča Cajavec FSU iz Laktaša (proizvodjac signalnih uredjaja, releja za žmigavce i električnih šaltera) i ZRAK-AEO ) iz Kiseljaka (proizvodjač specijalne opreme iz oblasti autoelektrike.



Pored ovoga, u Bosni Hercegovini se nalazi veliki broj proizvođača raznih dijelova za autoindustriju. Tu spadaju proizvođači kočionih sistema, spojnica, motora i mjenjača, upravljačkih sistema, aluminijskih felgi, pogonskih osovina, akumulatora, pumpi kao razlicitih malih dijelova, kao sto su opruge, vijci, crijeva i spojni elementi od metala, gume i plastike. Prema podacima Vanjsko/-Spoljnotrgovinske komora BiH izvoz metalne industrije u 2006. godine iznosio je 1,134 milijardu .

Dodatna prednost Bosne i Hercegovine je veliki broj naučno-istrazivačkih instituta i univerziteta u poredjenju sa brojem stanovnika. Tako npr. Mašinski fakulteti Univerziteta Sarajevo, Tuzla, Banja Luka, Zenica i Mostar usko saradjuju sa preduzećima iz prateće autoindutrije u njihovom okruženju na raznim naučno-istraživačkim projektima.

Wow. I didn't know half of this stuff about what else BiH builds.

Just out of curiosity, why did the Sarajevo plant stop building Volkswagens? Economy?

Volkswagen continues to be produced in Sarajevo - because of the new import regulations and the fall of the tariff barriers they went away from the car assembly.

Mid-2009 also began the production of electric EcoCarrier small van, which will come mainly at airports and in the municipal sector in Germany for use

Mariborska livarna će investirati u BiH

Premijer Federacije BiH (FBiH) Mustafa Mujezinović i ministar ekonomije u Vladi Republike Slovenije Matej Lahovnik boravili su danas u radnoj posjeti Mariborskoj livarni Maribor, gdje im je predstavljen projekat širenja proizvodnje aluminijumskih odljevaka za automobilsku industriju u BiH.

Podružnica MLM Alutec Bugojno ove godine će započeti proizvodnju aluminijumskih odljevaka za svoje strateške kupce u Evropi.

Radi se prvenstveno o koncernima Volkswagen, General Motors (GM), odnosno Opel, i drugim, sa kojima je MLM Alutec Bugojno već u prošlosti razvila dobru saradnju.

Jedan od njih je upravo zbog toga Mariborsku livarnu Maribor pozvao da se pridruži razvojnom projektu finalizacije jednog od novih automobilskih modela sa karakteristikama koje kupci novih automobila očekuju u budućnosti: racionalna potrošnja goriva, manja težina, veća okretnost i fleksibilnost te karakteristike na koje je ukazao period recesije, saopćila je Dialog company.

Kako se navodi u saopćenju, Mariborska livarna Maribor odlučila se za širenje proizvodnje u BiH prvenstveno zbog razvojnih potencijala koji su u toj državi sa naglašenom industrijskom tradicijom posebno perspektivni.

- Isto tako, infrastruktura razvijena za potrebe livničarske proizvodnje, interes za partnersku saradnju od strane bh. partnera i uslovi koje BiH pruža stranim investitorima bili su odlučujući faktori za proširenje dijela proizvodnje, rekao je predsjednik Uprave MLM Branko Žerdoner.


Mujezinović, koji je danas u Mariboru predstavio razvojne potencijale BiH, istovremeno je pozdravio odluku MLM, koja je u BiH poznata i po svojem brendu vodovodnih armatura Armal, da investira u BiH, jer će to doprinijeti razvojnoj dinamici, novim radnim mjestima i razvoju općenito.

Lahovnik je tom prilikom posebno istakao da će projekat, kojeg je počela ostvarivati MLM, doprinijeti ekonomskoj saradnji između država, i da istovremeno dokazuje da je Slovenija partner BiH pri uspostavljanju industrijske razvojne komponente, i to na tehnološko najzahtjevnijim područjima.

MLM Alutec Bugojno će do završetka početnog investicijskog ciklusa u BiH trebati 7,5 milijona eura, a otvoriće više od 120 novih radnih mjesta.

Pošto se radi o finansijski, logistički i tehnološki iznimno zahtjevnoj investiciji, koja će već u prvoj fazi morati pružiti vrhunski i standardizirani kontinuitet automobilskih sastavnih dijelova, od iznimne važnosti je i njen dugoročni značaj.

- Relativno dugo smo se pripremali za prvu važniju proizvodnju u inostranstvu. Nakon današnjeg razgovora sa premijerom Vlade FBiH Mustafom Mujezinovićem i njegovim saradnicima, te slovenskim ministrom ekonomije Matejem Lahovnikom, drago mi je da smo se odlučili upravo za BiH", izjavio je Žerdoner na kraju radnog susreta i neposredno pred početkom operativnih aktivnosti za širenje proizvodnje aluminijumskih odljevaka u Bugojnu, navodi se u saopćenju.
