Haha well c'mon, there's the Stadio Della Roma that's his design! All it has to do is get through a little bit of Italian bureaucracy and it'll get built in no time.

The Oakley Community Council on Sunday night rejected Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley's stadium funding plan on the eve of City Council's vote on a deal calling for a new soccer-specific venue to be built in the East Side neighborhood.

Will the community council's unanimous vote kill the deal? It already was unclear whether it had enough votes to pass, and the community council's decision could prompt Cranley to pull it off Monday's agenda.

For now, City Council's budget committee is set to meet at 11 a.m. to vote on a plan to spend $37 million in public money on stadium-related infrastructure.

Futbol Club Cincinnati wants to build a 21,000-seat stadium in Oakley Station, part of an effort to bolster the team's Major League Soccer expansion bid. Regardless of how Monday's vote goes, Oakley leaders aren't happy about the lack of public input on the stadium plan.

In passing a resolution, the community council expressed concerns about the stadium potentially using up all of the area's tax-increment financing money and thus keeping it from going to other projects in the thriving Oakley Station development.

Itís just unbelievable to see the city/county completely fumble this away. Itís now Newport or bust if they want the MLS.

Also, Oakley Community Council now plans to reverse course from last night's decision and support the stadium deal, per source. Comm council leaders expected to make that announcement during City Council meeting.

what exactly are they fumbling? It's the team owners that are fumbling by asking the taxpayers to pay for this.

Cinci will still have a great team and a great venue in the USL without having to spend $70,000,000 in taxpayer money.

people should be happy that the municipality isn't stupid enough to help fund this. Cities that waste tax revenue on MLS (or any other league) could be tomorrow's Columbus.

On the same day they were revealed as one of the four finalists for the first two MLS expansion slots that are scheduled to be awarded by the end of the year, FC Cincinnati received a double show of support from local government for the club's prospective MLS stadium plans.

Hamilton County commissioners on Wednesday unanimously agreed to build a $15 million parking garage for a proposed soccer stadium. That vote was coupled with a Cincinnati City Council vote to invest $36 million in other infrastructure necessary for the project in the Oakley neighborhood, including roads and utilities.

They city of Cincinnati is requesting 4 million dollars from the state of Ohio to help land FCC a MLS franchise. It originally requested 10 million and has lowered that amount. This is for infrastructure surrounding the proposed stadium.

Looks like Cincinnati could come up and sneak the league's 26th spot.

EXCLUSIVE: MLS-related FC Cincinnati partnership formed

https://www.bizjournals.com/cincinna...rtnership.html

@WilliamsBob75
It sounds like an MLS place will cost FC Cincinnati $350m, which the owners are willing to pay themselves.

Stadium $200m
Entry fee $150m

Meanwhile, the local govts are willing to pay $52m for infrastructure etc.

Oakley site appears nailed on - traffic study to be done.

In short, there are no hold-ups to Cincinnati being named the next MLS team.
