So it's $600 million to expand into a league where half the teams are losing money.

OVG says it has hired Steve Mattson to oversee the operations at the arena. He's spent the last 16 years at the vice president and general manager at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Mattson oversaw a $140 million renovation of that building, which hosts the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves.

Looks more like a pavilion than an arena

After this arena is redeveloped, is it almost guaranteed that Seattle will be given an NHL expansion team?

It was pretty easy for Vegas to nail one.

That's the plan, along with bringing the Sonics back.

Will Key Bank still keep its naming rights after once this arena is gutted and redeveloped?

I'd figure that the city of Seattle would want to rebrand this new NHL/NBA-ready arena.

Rename it "Amazon.com Arena".

They don't even have the naming rights now: http://archive.seattleweekly.com/new...d-the-city-for

The TL;DR of it:

They dropped their naming rights deal after the Sonics left, but the city didn't want to spend the money on renaming and new signage. So its just sortof remained "Key Arena".

Figure there will be a new naming rights sponsor by the time the new arena is complete.

Don't tell me the Tacoma Dome.

Seattle has a lot of other arenas they can use. (Showare Center is my guess.) In fact that was one of the arguments not to build yet another arena downtown.

A few better options that are closer and better suited than the Tacoma Dome.

Alaska Airlines Arena (Hec Edmundson Pavillion) which is the UW basketball arena: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hec_Edmundson_Pavilion

ShoWare Center in Kent, WA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ShoWare_Center

Angel of The Winds Arena (formerly Xfinity Arena) in Everett, WA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_of_the_Winds_Arena

Also, don't forget Seattle U Basketball will be looking for a new home as well.
