This is an excellent video and it seems the stands are slightly steeper than the Pepsi Arena. What made me suggest the stands would be steeper is simply the fact that the area in Greece is smaller than the one in Poland.

The previous owner of AEK wanted to build the new stadium in different location with the capacity to be 50k seats (if i remember correctly) but due to many various problems the project was abandoned

Dont like it, looks cheap and in any stadium that i have seen this kind of roofs didn't like it. I hope that they will build a solid roof to match also with the rest facility

Probably the latest designs after the changes were imposed by ΚΕΣΑ (Greek Central Council of Architecture):

North View

South View

East View

West View

Not 'arf. They've removed so many beautiful aspects. What are the council thinking? They've gone from a distinctive design to something generic and boring. Those designs make it look like a factory exterior. Shame. When will people learn that design by committee doesn't work.

It lost much of it's character by removing the arcs.
Unfortunately AEK couldn't do anything about that.
She was obligated to follow the instructions of the Council.
I really don't know what people in Council were thinking.

So it seems I was correct to highlight the Council imposed changes. That is one ugly ass stadium.

Lost its beauty - all because the Council of Architecture believe anything Church/Historic related is right wing.. Does anyone come out of a Greek university Trotsky free? Anyone? They have turned a beautiful building with accents of deep Byzantium (Greek history anyone?) into something that passes for the local stadium of a town like Chernobyl or Volgograd. It is not just the loss of the arches which circumnavigate the stadium, the major entrances are now brutalist and repulsive.

In fact this now looks like a proper 1960s soviet style building. Is that in keeping with the area? Totally generic. The original design has been culturally sanitised. Greek tragedy - inspired by Carl Marx. I Malano miau!

They need to do a new design. What you have now is a Byzantine shape with 1960s modernist features and it doesn't work - it looks like a dog's dinner. Either go pure modernist or do something modern. The current design looks an abomination. It looks like a a homage to 1960s Soviet industry - pretty much as far from Constantinople historicism as you can get.

It is not design by committee. It is cultural cleansing by the Neo Bolsheviks who were probably all mentally washed in Greek universities. They have purposely removed the historical elements and replaced them with a 1960s factory frontage from a Bucharest suburb. I know Greece voted in Marxists, but I didn't realise how powerful they were. When I visited I visited the south and they were very patriotic. Athens however seemed very socialist. Graffiti everywhere - there was a riot when we were there.. a man in the restaurant said it happens often and they burn cars often. It is like Greece admires the Soviet Union? So weird for a people who are so good at selling things. Do Greeks hate their past that much that they vote in these Marxists?

This stadium looks like one of the Soviet stadia Russia is pulling down and replacing for the WC and Greeks are building a new version of it?

I reckon those design changes are big enough for them to be given back to the public for review.

I sure as hell wouldn't want to live next to a stadium that looks like a factory.

I don't think the Greek media wants to tell this story. The AEK fans probably have no idea their stadium has been completely transformed beyond recognition.

It's funny masterpaul, when I first saw the 'redesign' (better described as a hatchet job), the exterior reminded me of one of my very first jobs. I worked at a factory belonging to a large UK catalogue empire and every morning I arrived there, I used to think it looked like something from communist Russia. Depressed the hell outta me. What you say is a very apt description of it's new 'look'. If I'd done that dogs dinner as a first year architectural design student I'd be ashamed to admit it was mine.

Busco, thanks for the info again. I've never been to Greece but it sure sounds like a very confused country right now.

Poor AEK... they go from a small stadium packed with distinctive design features and lots of flare and now they're left with an arena boasting all the character of an industrial storage shed. :o((((

I don't even think the media knows. I think I'll just tweet AEK and all the news site.

Edit: I don't even know who to tweet. So retweet this to anyone relevant.

@ Katafractos, are you sure about the designs you posted, source? I am asking you cause this is the first time i see them plus if you you check the following video (from 0.50 sec)

you will notice that the plans we already know are hanging on the fence of the U/C stadium.

Anyway and other than that, glass box-structures are good for office buildings (of course if the design is good)

Location: Athens, Hellas
Source: http://www.reds.gr/our_projects_serv...olis-15537667/

But if we want something special, something that will live a "mark" , a good mark to the whole area, a landmark, then the Byzantine style that the architects choose for the stadium is a very good choice

On the plans in your video - the main entrance arch is still there. The arches that have been lost are only the small ones around the top of the stadium. There is even still a little crenellation left on the main entrance in the plans in the video.

I cannot be sure that they are the latest plans that's why I wrote "probably".
I wish and I hope that AEK has managed in some way to maintain at least the arcs at the entrances.

The date of the plans I posted is July 21 2017.

Also in the Video (at 05:55) you can see clearly in the plans a "B AR 00 PER 000 0"
In the plans I posted this is: "B AR 00 PER 401 0"

This is analyzed as:
1) Stage of Study: Β
2) Type of Study: AR
3) Building Number: 00
4) Subfolder of Study: PER
5) Plan Number: 401
6) Version of Plan: 0

I don't know exactly what all these are, but the plans I posted have a plan number 401 and the plans at the video have plan number 000.
