I have been looking for a thread for a 2022 Winter Olympics Games 2018 Winter Olympics Games is going to PyeongChang South Korea so lets get the 2022 Winter Olympics Games Talk going on now there has been a lot of news lately about 2022.

2022 Bids from Wikipedia
Potential bids

[edit]Asia
Kazakhstan[2][3]
Kazakhstan hosted the 2011 Asian Winter Games, which can be seen as preparation for hosting the Winter Olympic Games in 2022. The Asian Winter Games were divided between Astana, the capital, and Almaty, the former capital, largest city, and financial centre.

[edit]Europe
Spain
Two cities have expressed their intention of bidding for the 2022 Games. If both keep to this, the Spanish Olympic Committee will have to decide which one will represent Spain.[4]
Barcelona
The mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, announced on January 13, 2010 that the city aspires to organize the 2022 Winter Olympics. The opening, closing and medal ceremonies and indoor sports would be held in Barcelona, while outdoor sports would be held in ski resorts in the Pyrenees.[5] Barcelona plans to share the games with La Molina (155 km from Barcelona).[6] Barcelona hosted the 1992 Summer Olympics, and if it wins the 2022 Winter bid, it will be the first city to have hosted both a Summer and Winter Olympiad. An information sheet released by the Barcelona City council recommended a two cluster system for a potential Barcelona 2022 Olympic Winter Games bid.[7][8]

Zaragoza
The mayor of Zaragoza, Juan Alberto Belloch, together with representatives of the cities of Huesca and Jaca and the regional government of Aragon, announced their intention to bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics.[9] Initially, Zaragoza was expected to bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics, but it was reasoned that, due to the unofficial continental rotation policy, it would be unlikely for Europe to be awarded back-to-back games.[10]

Germany
Munich
The German Olympic Sports Federation decided at its board meeting on 13 July 2011 to investigate without time pressure the cicumstances under which a future Olympic bid is useful. A future bid will only be submitted if it has solid sportive, economical, political and social foundations.[11] However Munich's Olympic Park director Ralph Huber requested a few days later another bid to host the Winter Games in Munich.[12] In September 2011, Thomas Bach who chairs the German Olympic Sports Federation said that Munich will bid again for the Winter Olympics. He did not confirm a specific 2022 bid however. [13]

Austria/ Italy
Euroregion Tyrol – South Tyrol – Trentino
The former parts of the County of Tyrol Tyrol in Austria, South Tyrol and Trentino in Italy are considering a joint bid as the Euroregion Tyrol – South Tyrol – Trentino for the 2022 Olympics. The capital of Tyrol, Innsbruck, has already hosted Olympic Winter Games twice, in 1964 and 1976[14] and will be the host of 2012 Winter Youth Olympics.

Finland
Tahko, Kuopio and Helsinki
Jouko Purontakanen, the Secretary General of the Finland Olympic Committee, said Finland could host the games alone in Tahko, Kuopio, and Helsinki if the project for artificial heightening of the Tahko hill progresses.[15] Stefan Wallin, Finland's Minister for Culture and Sports, has also suggested that Finland should bid for the 2022 games with other Nordic countries.[15]

France
Nice
The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, is having exploratory discussions about a bid.[16] This would come after the failure by Nice to secure the French nomination for the 2018 Olympics.
Toulouse
Even before the bid of Annecy for the 2018 Winter Olympics failed, the mayor of Montauban, Brigitte Barèges, was advocating the candidacy of Toulouse.[17] This would be a joint bid with Andorra and Spain. Toulouse had previously lobbied the French NOC with a bid for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics.

Norway
Gerhard Heiberg, IOC member from Norway, has announced that the IOC would welcome a bid from Norway to host the Winter Olympic Games.[18] Lillehammer,[19] host of the 1994 Winter Olympics, is considered as host city as well as the area Stavanger-Bergen-Voss.[20]
However as Lillehammer is bidding without opponent to host the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics Inge Andersen, General Secretary of Norway's National Olympic Committee considers a Norwegian bid to host the 2026 Winter Olympics more realistic than such a one for the 2022 Games.[21]
Oslo
During and after the successfully organized FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 the organizers at Oslo as well as the Norwegian Olympic Committee took in consideration a bid to host any Olympic Winter Games in Oslo in the future.[22][23] The alpine events are planned to be in Lillehammer, 180 km away. Oslo hosted the 1952 Winter Olympics (alpine events in Norefjell, 130 km away).

Poland
Zakopane
During a sportground opening ceremony, Polish President Lech Kaczyński announced on March 6, 2010 that he would like his country to be a candidate for 2022 Winter Olympic Games. A month later, on April 10, 2010, he died in a tragic plane crash, which killed 96 people including him, his wife, and the President of the Polish Olympic Committee. In their honor and memory, many Poles and members of the Polish Olympic Committee have advocated the proposed bid. In accordance with the late president's words, the country could organize Olympic Games together with Slovakia or both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The Olympics would be most likely held in the winter sport resort Zakopane, that has already hosted many international winter sport events in the recent past such as winter Universiades, Biathlon World Championship, Nordic World Ski Championships, several Ski Jumping World Cups and Nordic combined and Nordic and Alpine European and World Cups. However its 2006 Winter Olympics bid as well as its 2013 and 2015 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships bids were unsuccessful.[24]
Kraków

Romania
Brașov and Prahova Valley
Romanian former Prime Minister Călin Popescu Tăriceanu announced on June 14, 2007 that the country is considering a bid for the Games to be held in that area.[25][26] The bid city would be Brașov.

Sweden
Östersund is interested in organising the games, but needs political and economical support. The government has not supported it since 2002, after 20 years of bidding without winning any applications in the second round and finishing as runner up, but in November 2010, the Minister for Sports, Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth expressed that the government could support an application. This would be the eight attempt of bidding since 1956.[27]

Switzerland
St.Moritz/Davos
The executive committee of the Swiss Olympic Association decided on 11 August 2011 to put forward a bid of the St.Moritz/Davos-area to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The bid has to be approved by the Swiss Winter Sports Federations on 27 April 2012. Earlier it was announced that they intend working towards a "Swiss bid" profile that has support from all parts of the country.[28]

St. Moritz/Davos presented a project that will host all events in the surrounding area of Davos and St. Moritz; generally speaking, "ice events" in Davos and "snow events" in St. Moritz. However, Davos has a hosting tradition in cross-country skiing and snowboard, and so one would expect Davos venues for those competitions. After the decision on 11 August 2011 a feasibility study for the games was announced including the possibility to extend ice events to Zurich.
The intention to bid was approved in November 2010. On 24 January 2011 the Swiss Olympic Association, announced that five areas across Switzerland had shown interest in bidding to host the 2022 Winter Olympics[29]: Geneva, Valais, Graubünden, Lucerne/Central Switzerland and Berne.
Swiss Olympic received four bids until the March 31, 2011 deadline when Berne rejected to bid[30]:

Geneva
The city of Geneva officially supported the candidacy of neighbouring French city Annecy for the 2018 Winter Olympics,[31] despite those Games eventually being lost to Pyeongchang, and moved its own bid to the 2022 games.[32] Geneva's concept is said to be based around the city to host the ice sports events and some ski resorts in Valais like Crans-Montana and Col des Mosses to host the snow sports events.

Valais
Claude Koch, member of the Conseil d'Etat announced on December 12, 2010 that the canton Valais is interested in participating at talks to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Switzerland.[33]
Berne (not among the potential candidates announced by Swiss Sports Minister Ueli Maurer but later announced as a potential candidate by Swiss Olympic)[29][34])

Berne bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics that were finally hosted in Vancouver. During the 2010 Winter Olympics when warm temperatures harmed the games in Vancouver the plan to rebid appeared in Berne. Projectants questioned if Berne where plenty of snow was in mid-February 2010 would have been a better host to the 2010 Winter Olympics than Vancouver has been.[35] However Berne was announced as one of five potential candidates by Swiss Olympic on January 24, 2011 even though it was earlier not considered as a potential candidate by the Swiss Federal Department of Sports.[34]

Lucerne/Central Switzerland (The bid announced its withdrawal on December 13, 2010)[36]
Central Switzerland's bid was reported to have been the latest project of Egypt investor and billionaire Samih Sawiris.[37] Therefore Andermatt was projected host for the alpine events, cross-country skiing and ski jumping to be hosted in Einsiedeln with the ice hockey tournament in Zug and Ambri. Also integrating Lucerne was part of the concept.[38] Media reported on December 13, 2010 that a feasibility study has indicated that plans to host Olympic Games in Central Switzerland are illusory because they are oversized for this region and also there is a lack of political support.[36]

Ukraine
Lviv/Carpathian Mountains
On May 27, 2010, President Viktor Yanukovych stated during a visit to Lviv that Ukraine "will start working on the official nomination of our country as the holder of the Winter Olympic Games in Carpathians".[39] Ukraine's only previous experience in hosting Olympic events was during the 1980 Summer Olympics hosted by Moscow, when, as part of the Soviet Union, several association football matches were held in Kiev.[39]
On May 6, 2011 Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovych confirmed Ukraine has submitted a bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.[40][41] The statement is premature however, as the bid process does not begin for another two years.

Croatia
Split/Mosor Mountain Range
On September 16, 2011 during the City of Split's manifestation Day of sports, architectural studio Produkcija 004 presented their vision of Split's future that includes project of hosting 2022 Winter Olympic Games. Ambitious project compares Split with Vancouver and Sochi as coastal cities with mountainous background.[42]

[edit]North America
United States
Several of these potential host cities had previously shown interest to host the 2018 Winter Olympics, but the USOC declined to bid, focusing on the unsuccessful Chicago 2016 Olympic bid instead.[43][44] In August 2011, the USOC announced that the US would not bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics[45] because they were unable to reach a new revenue sharing deal. As of September 2011, progress had been made in the talks, making a 2022 bid seem more possible. [46]

Denver
Denver was preparing a 2018 bid, but the USOC decided instead to focus its efforts on Chicago's 2016 Summer Olympics bid. "In the short term, it's discouraging. But our mission has been long term," said Robert Cohen, chairman of the Metro Denver Sports Commission board of directors. "This is like running a marathon. Every mile doesn't go the way you planned it. But I think we're doing all we need to do. I'm excited by what we've done. I'm more encouraged than discouraged." Denver won, but declined to host the 1976 Winter Olympics.[47] It was revealed in August 2011 that Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will discuss launching an exploration committee for a potential 2022 bid.[48] The proposal also has support from Senator Michael Bennet, who is a co-chair the Congressional Olympic and Paralympic Caucus.[49] Towards the end of September 2011, Denver contacted the USOC about putting forth a bid. [50]

Reno & Lake Tahoe
Officials from Reno & Tahoe have met to discuss the possibility of a joint bid between those two areas to have the 2022 Winter Games. "Our coalition's goal is to continue its concerted efforts to establish and enhance these tourism and recreational offerings, positioning our area to be even more competitive for the next possible Olympic opportunity – hosting the 2022 Olympic Winter Games.", said Nevada Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, chairman of the Reno Tahoe Winter Games Coalition Board of Directors.[51] The region hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics at the Squaw Valley Ski Resort. As of September 2011, the Reno-Tahoe games coalition took part in a workshop at USOC headquarters. It was mentioned that the games would not cost taxpayers and that some modifications to some venues would be needed. Other new venues would need to be built. [52]

Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City may consider bidding on the 2022 Winter Games.[53][54] The city hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. With most of the facilities needed already built (minus the new events that have been added) and improved transportation since 2002, Salt Lake City has significant advantages, but hosted a relatively short 20 years earlier which makes it less likely to succeed. However, cities have hosted twice within a 20-year period before. For example: Innsbruck (1964 and 1976)

Bozeman, Montana
The area is climatically well prepared to handle such an event. Venues would be a moderate problem; mainly regarding events that would require an indoor stadium. The city has multiple world-class winter recreation destinations within its influence. These include Bridger Bowl, which along with Bohart Ranch will be hosting the 2012 NCAA skiing championships[55], as well as Big Sky Resort.

[edit]Cancelled bids

Quebec City, Canada
Quebec City initially expressed interest in bidding. In September 2011 Quebec City mayor Regis Labeaume ruled out bidding for 2022. However the city may bid for another Winter Game in the future. [56]

Should be Santiago. Many of the best athletes train there in the summers anyways and there should be no issue with sponsorship's as the location and event scenario provides ample marketing leverage to get viewers on board. The olympics are about growing the sport and touching as many corners of the world as possible, there is no logical reason to not give the games to a southern country, especially on a continent that presents some of the highest growth prospects in winter sports, anywhere, and a continent that the ioc has been trying to make inroads in to.

IMO its Santiago's to lose so long as they put together a good and professional bid. If they dont put together a good enough bid for 2022 then 2026 should be their's. There is no other city in the southern hemisphere as capable of hosting the games as Santiago is, and of course none in South America.

This is a city of 7 million with world class ski resorts within 40 km's of the urban center. The city is is wealthy, connected and is serviced with modern transportation infrastructure...Its really a hidden gem and I think most people fail to realize what sort of city Santiago is, and what sort of country Chile is, and how that part of SA is...

A Santiago/southern hemisphere WOGs ain't happening. It'll totally screw up the whole calendar of winter sports and winter product sponsors whose marketing programs are geared to the northern winters and these are the guys who ultimately pay for the Games. So unless the polar ice caps melt and reverse, a southern hemisphere WOGs ain't in the cards.

^^ You mean 2018 Commonwealth Games for the Gold Coast.

Unfortunately, based on economics and actual Winter Olympics history/Winter sporting tradition and actual medal count, Australia seems only viable for a Winter Games and that won't be even a slight bid until years down the track (perhaps after a failed Summer Games bid from Brisbane or Melbourne).

That being said, we lack the necessary height for major events like Women's and Men's Downhill.

However, given adequate investment, one could potentially modify the mountain slopes at Perisher Valley for example, to either increase their height to well above 800m, or dig below to provide the necessary vertical(s) drop(s).

As a result, you will have nearby Capital City of Canberra as host, with dedicated rail and road upgrades (or just road) linking it with Perisher Valley.

Canberra will host ice events, whilst the Perisher Valley would host snow events.

Potential venues are:

Canberra:
- A new Canberra Stadium serving ceremonies (40,000+)
- AIS Arena - 5,000 (Curling - Existing)
- New AIS Arena - 6,000-8,000 (Ice Hockey II - Permanent)
- Speed Skating Oval - 4,000 (Speed Skating - Permanent)

- Canberra Arena - (14,000 Ice Hockey - Permanent)
- Secondary Arena (12,000 Figure Skating/Short Track Speed Skating - Temporary)

Athletes' Village for a potential 6,000 (a secondary village will be built at Perisher Valley if needed)
Media Village for up to 10,000
Main Media Centre - New convention/exhibition centre, with a minimum of 50,000sqm of space.

Perisher Valley:
- Alpine Skiing at upgraded ski resorts/slopes
- Freestyle Skiing
- Snowboard events
- Ski Jumping (at Ski Jumping hills)
- Biathlon/Cross Country Skiing
- Sliding Centre (Bobsleigh, Luge, Skeleton)

Secondary Athletes' Village (if needed)
Media Sub Centre - a potential convention centre of at least 10,000sqm of space.

These new facilities/venues will serve as a new Olympic/Australian Institute of Sport training centre and will have a lasting assured legacy well after the games.

Alas, if we had the mountains, we could bid, but now it's just a pipe dream (even if one considers advances in mountain "making" technology)

Swiss exit good for possible Munich 2022 Games bid - DOSB

BERLIN (Reuters) - Munich's chances of landing the 2022 winter Olympics should the Bavarian capital bid again have improved by the rejection of a Swiss bid, the German's Olympic Committee (DOSB) said on Monday.

Munich was squarely beaten by South Korea's Pyeongchang for the 2018 winter Olympics and has yet to decide whether to run again.

But with Russia's Sochi hosting the 2014 winter Games, Munich could have a good shot at bringing the Games back to central Europe.

A planned Swiss candidacy of Davos and St Moritz was rejected by local citizens in a referendum on Sunday. There has been no official bid from any country. Poland and Ukraine are eyeing a joint bid.

"The competition for the winter Games 2022 has eased considerably (with the Swiss exit)," said DOSB General Director Michael Vesper in reaction to the referendum in the canton of Graubuenden.

"This will be positively considered by the DOSB when taking a decision. This decision shows how important the involvement of citizens is."

Munich's bid for 2018 was hampered by local opposition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen where the skiing events would be held. The Green party also officially opposed Munich's 2018 bid over environmental concerns, dealing it a major political blow.

"That is why the DOSB has made this (citizens' involvement) a condition for any potential new bid."

Vesper said a final decision would be taken after general elections in Germany in September and an International Olympic Committee vote for the 2020 summer Games host city in the same month.

"If there is a decision after that for Munich to bid again then there will be a referendum on November 10," he said.

Munich Bid Competition "Eased"; Very Strong Support for Tokyo
3/4/2013

Munich Weighing Impact of Swiss Decision

The German Olympic committee (DOSB) suggested that the rejection of a Swiss bid for the 2022 Olympics may enhance Munich’s chances of staging the Games.

Voters in the canton of Graubünden rejected the St. Moritz/Davos bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics in a referendum Sunday.

"The competition for the winter Games 2022 has eased considerably,” DOSB general director Michael Vesper was quoted by Reuters.

"This will be positively considered by the DOSB when taking a decision. This decision shows how important the involvement of citizens is."

Munich lost to PyeongChang in the race for the 2018 Winter Games.

The DOSB has been reluctant to rush into any decision on a repeat bid from the Bavarian city.

IOC vice president Thomas Bach told Around the Rings last month: “We are waiting for the decision on 2020 and elections [federal and state] in September.

“We are happy to note that there is a great support for an Olympic Games in Germany.”

Bids from Ukraine and Poland/Slovakia are being finalized, while voters in Oslo will approve a bid later this year. Other cities are expected to announce their candidacies shortly.

83% Support for Tokyo

A new poll commissioned by the Tokyo newspaper the Yomiuri Shimbun finds 83 percent of Japanese citizens support the city’s 2020 Olympic bid. Just 12 percent are opposed.

The numbers are up from 71 percent in January of 2012. The paper also reports that the numbers represent the highest level of support for the bid, dating back to Tokyo’s failed efforts to host the 2016 Games.

“Tokyo's Olympic promotion campaigns appear to have significantly affected people's attitude toward hosting the Games,” the report said.

Istanbul and Madrid are the other 2020 bid cities.

Vienna Bid Polling

Ahead of the March 7-9 referendum on the 2028 Olympics, residents of Vienna are split on the bid.

Makam Research polled 500 citizens on the Games and found 44 percent in favour of a bid 36 percent opposed and the rest have no opinion.

According to the findings, young people are the most supportive of the bid.

The poll also found 78 percent of responders feel that the Olympics would boost Austria’s image, 66 percent think the Games would help the Austrian economy, and 13 percent believe an Austrian Olympics would be the best ever.

Mayor Michael Häupl took time to promote the bid, saying it would energize youth participation in sports.

The opposition party has reportedly continued its critiques of a bid, noting initial figures to start a bid are estimated at $130 million.

Polish, Slovak leaders back 2022 Winter Olympics bid

Poland and Slovakia backed a joint bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics on Wednesday hoping to win the first Games for the two central European countries.
The countries' prime ministers announced the bid after meeting in the Slovak town of Poprad, at the foot of the Tatra Mountains where alpine skiing disciplines would be held to make up for a lack of suitable terrain in mostly flat Poland.

"We have a clear vision. We are not interested in any megalomania," Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said in a televised news conference with his counterpart Donald Tusk.
The Games would build on Poland's Euro 2012 football tournament, co-hosted with Ukraine, and Slovakia's experience with hosting the ice hockey world championships in 2011.The historic southern Polish city of Krakow would be the centre for the Games.

Germany's Munich, beaten by South Korea's Pyeongchang for the 2018 Winter Olympics, is a possible candidate while a planned Swiss candidacy of Davos and St Moritz was rejected by local citizens.
Fico brushed aside questions about whether the costs of hosting the games would be justified, especially as the euro zone struggles with its lengthy debt crisis.
"We have crisis now. Should we crawl under the table? When we have crisis, we should not think about the future, ignore any chances that come up?" Fico said. Slovak investors have upgraded ski lifts and services at the Chopok and Jasna ski resort in the Tatras, drawing in tourists from surrounding countries but more infrastructure investment would be needed to prepare the region for the games' visitors.

Poprad unsuccessfully bid for the 2002 and 2006 Winter Games.

Bids which are consisted of two countries are allowed if there is no possibility to organise all winter sport competitions in one country. For example, we ( Poland) can't organise alpine skiing because our ski slopes don't have enough difference of height ( these hills which would have this difference are situated in national parks). So alpine skiing would take place in Slovakia.

The only doubt is about ice-hockey, Poland can organise these competitions, but ice-hockey is a national sport in Slovakia, and Slovaks are very interested in it. So we are waiting for answer of IOC if ice-hockey can be organised in Slovakia or must be organised in Poland.

Btw, some sport arenas are currently u/c. Here you can see Kraków Arena ( 15 328 seats) which could be used during WOG for ice-skating and here is a football stadium which could be used for opening and closing ceremonies ;)

Almaty, in Kazakhstan, has officially filed an application to bid for hosting rights to the 24th Olympic Winter Games in 2022. The decision was made last Thursday at a meeting with the City Administration and the Olympic Committee. The city claims to be "almost ready" with its facilities built for the 2011 Asian Winter Games (which were co-hosted with Astana) and they are willing to build more facilities if they win the rights for the Games. "The objects which the city wants to repair, they will be repaired."

This news was confirmed on 17 August 2013.

Stockholm is contemplating a possible bid for the games. As much as I think that Sweden would be a great host can´t let go of the feeling it´s a very far fetched bid. IOC would pretty much open doors for bids from countries instead of cities.

This could open doors for a small country like Slovenia to host the games if they could find a downhill slope that meets IOC requirements and build a bobsleigh track. Pretty decent bid imo.

Yes, why not. I don't see any contender that is even close to Munich. Bach should not be a problem.

Well, the stadium just needs a refurbishment but not a major one. New seats, scoreboard, sanitary facilities should be enough. And even if they want to do a major one it should not be that expensive.

Munich would be the first city to host both a summer Olympics and a winter Olympics. I'm hoping that Vancouver could one day accomplish that.

Barcelona mayor says 2022 Winter Games bid is ready after Madrid fails to secure Summer Games

Less than one day after Madrid lost in its bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics, Barcelona Mayor Xavier Trias said that the city is prepared to present a bid for the 2022 Winter Games. "We have the dossier ready," Trias told Catalan television Sunday. "We need to speak with the Spanish Olympic Committee to see if they are ready to go forward with this venture."

Madrid failed in its third straight try to win the right to host the Summer Games on Saturday when the International Olympic Committee chose Tokyo over the Spanish capital and Istanbul. Barcelona is planning to present a "Barcelona-Pyrenees" bid with the nearby mountains as an alpine venue. Barcelona's previous mayor, Jordi Hereu, announced plans to bid for the 2022 Games in 2010, before Madrid announced its most recent bid for the Summer Games.

Trias had said earlier this year that he would launch Barcelona's winter bid if Madrid lost. He had also given his public support to Madrid in its attempt to host the world's largest sporting event. Barcelona held the 1992 Summer Games and used the event to remodel the city's sea front and invest heavily in transportation and other improvements. Thanks to the success of the Games, Barcelona was transformed from a postindustrial town into one of Europe's leading tourist destinations. Barcelona's plan for a bid received the backing of the regional Catalan government. "The Catalan government will be fully behind the bid if it ends up being formalized," said Santi Vila, Catalonia's head of sustainability and territorial policy.

Vila said that Barcelona was capable of hosting the event despite having similar economic problems that hurt Madrid's chances. "We already have a large part of the infrastructures in place," said Vila. "And we have the experience of Barcelona hosting the world swimming championships this summer that showed you don't have to spend a lot of money. The transport connection between Barcelona and Puigcerda (in the Pyrenees) needs to be improved and this would provide the sense of urgency to do so."

Poland and Slovakia: in November bid for 2022 Olympic Winter Games

Krakow is ready to submit a bid to host the Winter Olympics in 2022 with the support of a partnership with Slovakia, who will give his Jasna Ski Resort (in Zilina region) as the venue for the alpine disciplines. This, in short the agreement reached on Thursday by the Polish -Slovak Joint Committee which met in the village Demanovska Dolina, in the valley up to the slopes of Jasna.

To counter the Polish offer, for the moment, there is only one competitor official: the former capital of Kazakhstan, Almaty, host of the Asian Winter Games in 2011 and the Winter Universiade in 2017. Other potential candidates are - only in Europe - Sarajevo, Nice, Monaco, Munich, Oslo, Brasov, Barcelona, Stockholm and Lviv, the latter on the foothills of the same Ukrainian Carpathian chain of the Polish mountains. In addition to these locations , it is still uncertain the possible candidacy of Beijing/Zhangjiakou.
