I'm really worried Le Monde's cladding is gonna look way different compared to the renderings...

It's hard to tell how it will end, but Snøhetta already done some weird and unique building facades that turned out pretty well so there are reasons to be optimistic

Whoah, were these towers there when we originally discussed the project announcement? I can't remember them.

I believe they were planned from the beginning, at least since 2016. The project is called Ouest Village, you can have more infos/photos on the french thread if you want http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1988024, and on the official site : http://ouest-village.lnc.fr/index.php

This is one of those fake-french style things they build in china for people with a lot of money but shallow taste. Surprised to see something like this here. I'd much rather live in a decaying but authentic hausmannian building than in this out-of-scale phonylandia.

1) We're not building Haussmannian buildings anymore so if you need to build new, what's wrong with building stuff llike this?

2) These 2 towers aren't really of French architecture IMO .

It has been a source of ongoing debate all around the forum. So i don't want to get into it if not necessary. Anyway, my point is, we should rather spend our efforts on protecting the precious from every eras of our cities, give way to contemporary, accept that our cities are transforming with time, but try to preserve whatever defines their character.
This project will not add to what Paris is.

(You are right about the towers, they are of some hard-to-define neoclassical mess, the worst of the entire project.)

??? Of course we still do!

I mean, do the new "passage du Havre" ring a bell?

(+ the numerous (among others) Kaufman & Broad buildings... and not to mention what happens in several outer-Paris municipalities (Plessis-Robinson, Marne-la-Vallée..Roissy-en-France, etc, etc))

I think they have a Canadian look to them (Quebecois?), but I can't really put my finger on the source. One of the major Canadian cities has a very similar tower, I need to do a quick Wikipedia raid to see which one it is.
