Well I do not know whether suburbs have been included or is it only limited to the metropolitan area. However as far as I read the content, these are malls only ... big or small. Kolkata does have 15 malls if you rope in Fort Knox, Hometown etc. as those are specialized category malls.

Also average malls does not mean bad business because these are general malls with general category of outlets or maybe a mix with a multiplex and food court however below avg malls are an area of concern.

Delhi is the mall capital of India however in the last 10 years only 2 malls closed down and one got converted to an office and mall culture still rules amongst the Delhiites whereas Mumbai is badly affected with several well known malls closing down as per JLL, majorly due to high rentals and low footfall.

E-commerce is also responsible for affecting the business at malls. The current trend as per the report is mainly focussing on Multinational brands and review of outlets every year and shown the door out for non performing ones which are generally available.

The main malls in kolkata metropolitan area are:

1. City centre 1
2. City centre 2
3. South city mall
4. Mani Square
5. Forum mall
6. Forum Courtyard
7. Axis mall
8. Diamond Plaza
9. Lake mall
10. Quest mall
11. Suncity mall barasat
12. Metropolis mall
13. Acropolis mall
14. Avani riverside mall
15. Forum Rangoli

Also for mumbai and Delhi I think MMR and NCR region are taken respectively in the list.

But good to see that Kolkata has more malls than Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune. I thought these three cities had more malls than Kolkata

KMA map from 2011. Barasat is included.

At that time KMA spread over 1886.67 sq. km. and had 3 Municipal
Corporations, 39 Municipalities and 24 Panchayat Samitis.

The above may have changed in 2016.

What about 22 Camac Street? Would that be considered a mall?

The first mall to be built in our country was the New Market, though the mall name was not used at that time. A mall simply means various shops under one roof, so a lot of other shopping centers can be termed as mall as well. A mall is simply a shopping center.

Isn't that Metropolitan Building (Kolkata), the building which houses Bigbazar was the first departmental store ( Mall ) in the whole Asia?

BEING A LUXURY MALL.. clientele is limited. not a mainstream entertainment destination either. so regular time-passers wont be coming here for window shopping. few teenagers were there but from rich background. hardly anyone walked in the mall ( i did!). the multiplex is very expensive and the food court is for mature and serious foodies.
But I heard that many premiers of Bangla Film Industries are held over here apart from South City and they organise many public contests

What Deep meant was that the Metropolitan Building now houses Big Bazaar. But when it was built it housed Whiteway and Laidlaw (I might be wrong with the name) but it was considered a luxury departmental store pretty much at a higher hierarchy than Harrods and the only departmental store east of Seuz.

Absolutely on the spot! One other was Hall & Anderson at the crossing of Park Street & Chowringhee.

As for New Market, the concept truly was what you said... not only stores of variety but there were theaters like the famed New Empire, Glob, Light House and Chaplin and a 5 Star Hotel next to it. I wish the whole area to be restored to its former glory with the resent amenities and tech and may be... may be cover those lanes covering this vast area with glass canopies to air condition it like that in Cabbot Circus, Bristol
