Metiaburj to be displayed as hub for readymade kids garment

Quote:

The Mamata Banerjee government will showcase Metiaburj as a hub for readymade kids garment in a big way at the Bengal Global Business Summit that will be held in January 2018 as part of its strategy to give a big boost to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector.
"Bengal is the leader when it comes to readymade garments in the country. Metiaburj in the port area contributes to the bulk of readymade garments across the city but the area is still unorganised. We have made elaborate plans to organise them and are trying to facilitate the traders so that they can export their produces to foreign countries," a senior official of the state MSME said.
MSME and textiles have always been the focus area of Bengal in all its business summits including BGBS which will be in its fourth year. The MSME sector under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has noticed a remarkable turnaround in the last six years.
A senior official of MSME department said BGBS will hold special sessions on Textile and Apparel and Engineering. "We are involving Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) and also Eastern India Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Federation (EIGMEF) in a big way in the two-day summit. We are hopeful that this will give the much needed boost to the textile sector," Rajiva Sinha, Principal Secretary of MSME department said. Sources in the MSME department said in the last BGBS, the MSME department had signed an agreement with AEPC and adopted Metiaburj as a cluster. The outcome of this agreement will also be highlighted at this year's BGBS.
Sinha had held a number of meetings in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata involving the three leading bodies of apparel exporters across India as they offer invaluable assistance to Indian exporters as well as importers/international buyers who choose India as their the preferred sourcing destination for garments.
According to the West Bengal Industry Report 2015, the state has a sizeable garments industry generating annually about Rs 720 crore in the wage income. It's virtually an iceberg, with a small registered and formal portion and a vast unregistered and submerged informal portion.
The informal part does not only cover tiny, family-based units, it also includes manufacturers operating several machines which technically qualify for registration under the Factories Act.
The MSME department is developing 11 parks in PPP model. The parks would provide industry land, infrastructure, single window clearance, environment compliant infra, power apart from a host of subsides (capital, land, stamp duty, labour, power etc) under the Bengal Textile Policy, 2013. The proposed parks will be showcased at the event and the investors will be urged to invest in these parks.
In case of the Engineering sector, the department is collaborating with Engineering Export Promotion Council of India (EEPC) and Indian Foundry Association (IFA) and at the state level, the government is involving Howrah Foundry Association and Howrah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
"Our aim is to provide technological support to those in the Engineering sector and we are planning to join hands with Ranchi based National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology (NIFFT) and National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad for this purpose," a senior official said.
Rs 2,35,290.03 crore of business announcements, business document exchanges, expressions of interest and investment proposals were received at the Bengal Global Business Summit 2017.

Bengal Meets 336 Of 372 Parameters for Ease of Doing Business

Quote:
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday claimed that the state meets a whopping 336 of the 372 parameters considered to rank a state for ease of doing business.

While addressing the Horasis Asia Meeting in Kolkata, Mamata said, “Bengal is the future destination for investments and I would like to request business houses/investors from across the globe to participate in the Bengal Global Business Summit in January next year. Earlier, Bengal was ranked 30 in the ease of doing business rankings. Three years ago the rank improved to 15 and now, we are third in India.”

Acknowledging the fact that there are some issues over how Bengal is perceived as an investment destination, the Chief Minister said, “It is because of a misrule of 34 years of the Left Front government that we are facing some legacy issues. It will take time to improve our ratings in terms of investment.”

“We have taken lot of initiatives in creating a favourable atmosphere for doing business in Bengal. The state has progressed like never before. It is emerging as the industrial destination. Please come and invest and I promise that my government will provide all kinds of assistance to you,” she assured the investors.

Mamata also emphasized that the strategic location of Bengal makes it a gateway to southeast Asia and is crucial for one’s outreach to Thailand, Malaysia and other investment destinations.

“Bengal is a gateway to south-east Asia. From Bengal you can expand to the eight north-eastern states. You can reach Bhutan and Nepal too from here as they are just 30 minutes away from Bengal. There is easy access to Thailand, Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur too,” she said.

Chairman of Manipal Global Education and former Infosys Director TV Mohan Das Pai, who was also present at the event, stressed that Bengal must change its image to convince the investors.

He added that while the present government in the state is trying to change the image, there is a need to also change the perception of the investors.

The Horasis business summit is being attended by about 350 delegates from 65 countries, other than India.

City hub for Korea body

The South Korean government is about to open an office in Calcutta to facilitate investments by companies of that country in Bengal as well as the rest of east India.

The city office of the Korean Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) will be functional next month, said Kwang Lee, the acting ambassador of South Korea to India.

Kwang is in Calcutta to take part in "Korea Caravan", an annual event organised by the embassy of the Republic of Korea. As part of the event, a Korean delegation visits an Indian state and interact with the local government and the business community.

"The Republic of Korea is keen to expand business ties with Bengal, which is why we have come here with Korean Caravan. We had been looking for land for KOTRA for a year. Finally, the office is ready and we will open it in December," the envoy told Metro on Monday.

KOTRA, which runs offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore, will set up the city office in Salt Lake Sector V.

"We will provide businessmen from Korea information from this part of the country. We will also arrange for them business meetings with prospective Indian counterparts if they are looking for partnerships," said Young Seaon Park, director of KOTRA's upcoming office.

A meeting between a business delegation from South Korea and representatives of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry is scheduled for Tuesday.

Amit Mitra claims during a function named "Visions for Bengal : 2025" that Kolkata is going to compete with Mumbai in 2025 as a finance hub. High on weed?? Really??

Well, sir, we respect you. These kinds of claims suit our CM, not you sir. Please continue with your good work without being such a day-dreamer.

Why not....

By 2025 Kolkata will have a full functional deep sea port in tajpur.... along with a upcoming port in sagar....

By 2025 India will have most of its trade and connectivity with ASEAN, Japan, China and other Indo Pacific Countries which lies on the eastern side of our country....

By that time Kolkata will also get connected to Chinese Railway Via Kathmandu.... (Please read about this news)

Also, the entire eastern , NE , Bangladesh and ASEAN region will be connected into a big economic zone with improved connectivity.....

If all this comes up business will move from that dirty slum city to Kolkata within a decade....

Mr Mitra is a bengali who is at least trying to bring back glory to this city.... he is not in weeds , foolish/lethargic bongs like you may be in weeds......

Eta ki chhilo?
Dude by choosing such offensive words, you bring more disrepute to Bengali forummers. Dirt and slum is a living reality of any South Asian city, please come down from your high horse.

Please refrain from such racist rants and most importantly don't try to pit one city against another. We should work to make our cities better wherever we are.

When did I abuse him bhai? I even said that I respect him and he is doing a great job. Kolkata is prospering and will prosper certainly. We all want that. What I meant was, please stop making such unrealistic claims. If we get there in 2025, we will all celebrate and boast Bengal's success. But as of now, talking about matching Mumbai in 6-7 years looks far from reality, that's what I said.

Rege jeo na bhai. It's ok. We can have different opinions.

ASEAN nations in talks with Centre to extend India-Myanmar-Thailand highway to Vietnam

The government is in talks with ASEAN countries to extend the India-Myanmar-Thailand (IMT) highway up to Vietnam, a senior official said on Tuesday.

India and ASEAN countries are holding consultations on the extension of the 1,360 km IMT highway – from Moreh in India to Mae-Sot in Thailand — to Laos, Cambodia and to Vietnam, she said.

"Already some level of discussions have started and...we have also announced a certain line of credit for the purpose on certain projects," said Dakshita Das, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

135 crore mega deal boosts office space realty biz in city

In the first significant investment by a private insurance fund in the city's realty-scape, an office building in New Town has been scooped up for a whopping Rs 135 crore, eclipsing the last major single deal in recent years by a long shot. Earlier this year, a telecom firm had inked a Rs 61 crore deal to buy office space in Salt Lake Sector V.
Tata AIA Life Insurance Co Ltd, the joint venture company formed by Tata Sons and Hong Kong-based AIA Group, sealed the deal for a 2,70,000 sq ft tower at EcoSpace Business Park earlier this month. Mukesh Ambani group company Reliance Jio had earlier this year taken over 1,40,000 sq ft over two floors at Godrej Wat-erside IT Park.
According to JLL, a global real estate services firm specialising in commercial prop-erty and investment management that handled the transaction between Tata AIA and the Harsh Neotia led Ambuja Realty group, the big ticket deal has the potential to attract other funds to Kolkata's real estate sector. "This is one of the landmark deals in Kolkata in the past five years and should give the commercial real estate sector in the city a fillip," said JLL Kolkata managing director Surekha Bihani.

News courtesy: Times of India.

Just one clarification regarding this deal--- its a change of ownership. TCS has 3 tower occupied in Ecospace, out of that one tower is taken over by TATA AIA from Ambuja's. They are not taking any office space but definitely this is a big ticket commercial transaction. The report verbiage should have been different as its creating confusion. This deal is similar , in nature, when Unitech's Infospace is taken over by Candor.

But I am personally not sure how this transaction is a game changer. No other city list this changing ownership as commercial office space consumption/transaction.

Quote:
Tata AIA had been scouting for properties ever since the insurance regulator approved the investment of 5% insurance corpus in real estate sector. The company was looking at properties in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Beangalore and Hyderabad when the city JLL team urged it to look at Kolkata.
"Tata AIA was on the lookout for a pre-leased asset with sound provenance and good tenants. We were also keen to sell the building that had been leased to TCS. The deal took time as they did conducted an onerous due diligence. This is perhaps the first time that a private insurance company was looking at eastern India," said Neotia.

According to sources, TCS had leased 6.7 lakh sq ft in New Town, of which the ownership of 2.7 lakh sq ft has changed to Tata AIA following the deal. The annual rent value of the tower is around Rs 1 crore.

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/...w/62045158.cms
The most promising words from the report is :

"We have been witnessing a revival in office space offtake this year. Companies like Reliance Jio, Tech Mahindra, Nomura, PwC, Cognizant and Bandhan Bank had picked up space. The Tata AIA deal in December should give the industry a fillip and inspire more companies to look at Kolkata," said JLL head of markets (east) Sudipto Pramanik.

There has been an increased offtake in office space pan India, Hyderabad leading the pack, and hiring has increased by 24% and the biggest sectors are in IT/ITeS calling it the 2nd wave Big Bang by the industrywallahs and Kolkata can't remain behind.

Anyway, more office space more means more jobs means momentum of Economy is very much in order. The above deal, thanks to JLL, will give a big boost to jobs - which will be tech and non-tech both.

But @ModernBengali, how did you come to the conclusion if its change of ownership? If its indeed COA, then its only the additional space taken will be considered as a new deal, otherwise it will be just change of hands with increased rentals which is only significant in terms of cost factor. Please clarify.

Please refer to the news report I quoted. Its clearly mentioned in the report:

"TCS had leased 6.7 lakh sq ft in New Town, of which the ownership of 2.7 lakh sq ft has changed to Tata AIA following the deal. "

No additional space has been taken.

Additional info: Block 2A, 2.7 lakh sqft, of Ecospace which is known as RMZ block, currently occupied by TCS BPS is changing ownership. Now TCS will plan to move out of this building if there will be significant cost factor change.
