I don't think Times Squares looks sterile.... If anything it looks a lot better now then it ever did. All New York had then was bricks, concrete and large signs. Now, it's the best of everything. It had to grow up eventually anyways.

If I'm ever down there, I barely glance at the LED video-like displays as I did the elaborate neon and innovative signs of the past. There's just nothing outstanding about any of those signs. They look too much like TV screens. In that way, there's a kind of sterility about it.

42nd Street displays are more like the old Times Square, however, including some of the streets on the fringe of the district.
