This forum seriously lacks photos and hardly any talk of public transportation. So this new thread to share photos and discuss developments with SETC, TNSRTC, and the metro and city buses, bus terminals etc
It's true. It was introduces in Mid of 90's, to facilitate then RM's daugter to reach from Bangalore to Vellore for her studies(I heared from many people saying this). At the time of introduction it had only one stopping in Katpadi. Later they introduced more stoppings, now it have 11 stopping between Bangalore and chennai. Still it is real super fast... just like how Lalbhag express got introduced between Bangalore and Chennai with Katpadi stop for then RM's daughter.
Arul, Is it true?
Yes its true. Just a small correction. Initially lalbagh was started as a complete AC train with stops at Jolarpet (for electric - diesel loco change) and Katpadi (Jaffer sheriff's daughter was studying at vellore). Later due to poor patronage non AC coaches were added. Ultimately in the last 10 years the train is exactly like Banglore express and multiple stops. Infact the rakes are shared by these two trains. SBC - MAS Lalbagh returns as Bangalore exp and SBC - MAS Bang exp returns as LalbahIt's true. if you go back in the forum you can find it, i have this time table in torn condition in my ancestral homeNo I had that timetable in those years. not anymore. Ooty - Bangalore and ooty chennai were the most prestigious routes of TNSTC CBE and later TNSTC ooty (CBE III). Till 1998 july, all ooty Bangalore were 3X2 buses.Infact i can recollect the reg no of the buses too from 1988). In July 1998, 2X2 pushback 34 seater buses were introduced. Later in 2006, the JCBL and 36 seater UDs came.
Here are the list of buses that served ooty - BNG/Chennai (from my memory)
Ooty - Bangalore/Mysore
TCB 1749 - 1756 (till 1989) - CTC
TN37N0010 - 18 (1989- 1991) - CTC - very stylish buses with the curved glass in front and glass behind driver seat instead of grill
TN37N0248-252(1991 - 1993) - CTC
TN37N0565-568 (1993 -1997) - CTC/BTC - best buses in terms of seats and leg space
TN43N0072 - 78(1995 - 1997) - BTC/TNSTC CBEIII - good looking but whole lot had to be replaced soon, even on other routes
TN43N0172, 174, 177, 179, 181(1997 - 1998) - TNSTC CBE III/TNSTC ooty - double door buses like TNSTC VPM, but invariably one door closed
TN43N0269 - 272 (single front door, 2X2 pushback)(1997 - 2003)
TN43N0337 -339(single rear door, 2X2 pushback) (2002 - 2006)

TN430252, 253 (1997 - 2000) - Single rear door
TN43N0453, 454 (2006 onwards) - UD
I havent detailed out any routes from KSRTC. All the routes i shared are only for TN STUs.Dhandapani, thanks for sharing this...
I think Velankanni to Changanachery is operated by KSRTC.
I think, Erode - Ernakulam and Thiruvananathapuram and Coimbatore - Thiruvananthapuram needs dedicated buses. They deserve it.
Huge amount of information. Not sure how you can remember these reg nos still. :cheers:No I had that timetable in those years. not anymore. nagercoil-kollencode is running with bus no-382, 382AYes it is Kanyakumari-Kovalam superfast. I missed to add.
Marthandam-Panachamoodu also similar to Nagercoil-Kollencode serive, which runs through Tamil nadu and Kerala alternatively.
Madurai - Ernakulam via Kottayam is one of the modified routes. During 80s this route was up to Kottayam only (250 KM, 8.5 hours travel time) and TTC operated 2 round trips. Later it was extended up to Ernakulam.Reno,
Many of the routes from old agreement is carried forward. So cant get all the route details from latest agreements. Need to analyze it fully.
Planning to come up with the route list that are not operational. That will be put in TNSTC blog. I hope some of the TNSTC officials are reading it.
TN-57 N 2135
Salem-Bodi
But rear windshield stickered as Theni,Vathlagundu.
Windshield sticker color is not good in this. TNSTC tirunelveli's windshield colour looks awesome with green livery.
Till 1993, APSRTC had a Mantralayam - Chennai service (via Adoni, gooty, Tadapathri, Cuddapah, Tirupathi). It was a gruelling 18 hours journey on some of the worst roads then. I as well as my family has traveled by this bus quite a few times. Most AP buses connecting chennai have the advantage of running in their territory for maximum stance, just as our TN buses towards Bangalore or buses towards Trivandrum have. This could be one of the reasons why TN buses dont go beyond Kurnool or Shimoga (Kollur is one exception). I have always had this doubt. Is this interstate agreement similar or same between TN and PY?Moving to AP permits:
Most of our permits are towards thirupathi only. There was one Chennai-Vijayawada permit. But it is deleted in latest agreement.
As i mentioned earlier, SETC had permits for running Bangalore-Thirupathi route. But the permit was deleted in the latest agreement.
to AP Chennai have good connectivity by APSRTC. our SETC not even considering .I have no idea whether SETC wasting any permits.but there areI havent detailed out any routes from KSRTC. All the routes i shared are only for TN STUs.
Huge amount of information. Not sure how you can remember these reg nos still.
BTW, We still have permits for running Ooty-Thirupathi service. SETC is not running it.
TNSTC-CBE had one Pollachi-Chalakudi bus running via Valparai, Sholayar, Athirapalli falls. I have seen this bus with "Punnagai Mannan falls" stickers in the windshield. We have permits, but it is not in operation now. :bash:
One good thing is, We are using 90% of KL permits. Only AP and KA permits are wasted. Whereas KaSRTC and APSRTC are utilizing it fully.

Surprise routes? So many are there in TN-AP agreement and most of them are not running. Few are here..
Pollachi-Thirupathi. We had this bus running before 10 years and it is no more now. Not sure whether this is being used for Tirupur-Thirupathi route or not.

Chennai-Mandralayam.
Chennai-Cudapa.
Salem-Cudapa.
and we can say so many....
above are just example .some from above routes, from Chennai may have APSRTC connectivity.
even APSRTC also not concentrating on deep TN. If they operate their
Garuda 's like what KSRTC doing with Airavat it will be disaster for SETC.
