Guys any idea about the rough number of buses that needs to be replaced in Hyderabad? I think there are quite a few which ran over 10 Lakh KM.

We are such a unfortunate situation. When there is clear chance of making more money by increasing the buses from 350 to 1000, the corporation says it does not have capability. I really hope the situation changes in near future. KSRTC is also very cooperative, both RTCs together can give very tough competition to private players.

RTC brings down losses
The APSRTC Greater Hyderabad Zone has reduced the annual losses from Rs. 144 crore in the financial year 2011-12 to Rs. 60 crore in 2012-13. Authorities claimed that losses were brought down by cancelling redundant trips during peak hours, reducing the bus frequency between the hours 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., maintaining punctuality and other measures. During a performance review meeting, APSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director A.K. Khan complimented the Greater Hyderabad zone authorities for reducing the losses. He instructed the authorities to keep a check on expenditure and increase the revenues in the coming days. He wanted the authorities to transform the zone into a profit-making zone. Later, he felicitated six depot managers. Source: http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper...cle4719629.ece |

I think things are moving in right direction from the time Mr.AK Khan took up the charges. Especially I could sense him focusing on reducing the losses by better operations management. He also focused on district services by bringing in new models of Super Luxury and planning to change loss making Isuzu sleepers to semi sleepers etc. I think there is also proposal to buy 1000 new buses and a portion of the buses will be for Hyderabad city. Hopefully those buses will be ordinary (we have enough Metro buses). And like KSRTC, APSRTC should also sell its Super Luxury and Garuda services tickets on 3rd part ticket selling website like redbus.in and abhibus.com. This is another way to straight away compete with private operators. What do you guys think?
