Wow, very nice interiors...

And is that first photo from a new casino? Arrangement of the tables is just like what you get from such a place (looks like a smaller version of the one in Marina Bay Sands)!

TBH the theme park is kinda small.... with huge amount of tourist flooding there.... i even doubt that people can enjoy the theme park without feeling very very crowded. Maybe they could consider of having 2 storey theme park. At least it instantly double the space as they build it high. haha

Genting still has its own charm. Right up in the mountain with cooler climate, i hope its gonna be better than USS Singapore.

From the look of it, it's more like a big casino plus a giant Aeon mall on the top.

To bad they didn't want to invest in building that could have been iconic, especially with the large focus on tourism.
But Genting opened in 1971, 46 years ago. And no one expected this dream of this 'uneducated' contractor who didn't even know how to speak English, to build a hill resort nearer than Cameron Highlands to KL, to succeed. In fact when he told his friends they thought he was a senile old man. And while it did get popular among Malaysians & Singaporeans, it, along with the company only became international in the early 2000s.

And LGT (he admits it himself in his autobiography) & advisors were also 'Chinaman' businesspeople. They started small & did why they could to survive. That means being very frugal & making sure every ringgit spent would bring in immediate returns. And even with deep pockets in the 90's & 2000's they decided not to spend extra on exteriors.

Now as the old guard has left, the new blood has gotten a lot of global inspiration from Vegas. They are also not too stingy on the cash.

The 70s & 80s were also not known to have the best architecture in human history. Tacky, boxy architecture like what we see is the norm. But it is correct to criticise First World Hotel, tacky & built in the early 2000s.

We cannot expect Genting to be a Resorts World Sentosa because it was built more than 30 years ago. Not until they tear down all old buildings there.

Tenants exactly like JPO

The hotels rooftop can be converted to rooftop garden with alfresco dining and even bar and clubs

Will be pretty cool drinking up there in the cool weather. They can also build like a giant indoor spa land up there overlooking the valley. Like a big family Korean style spa land with pools, sauna, massage facilities etc.or something exciting that differentiate itself from the regional themepark.

But I guess Genting Highland has no competition ehh. It's the only casino in the country. The numbers of arrival are enuf to sustain the business there and there's no need for Genting to refurbish the area. Hotels are always at 90%++ occupancy rate. Unlike USS or Disneyland HK, they're specialised themepark which requires more tourists to keep it profitable. Genting itself really has no competition in Malaysia unless there's a second Genting in the country.

The 30 years old hotels can always be refurbished to something modern and chic to stay relevant

Any idea when's the opening date for GPO?

Seems like we are looking at end 2018 for the new hotel and theme park to be opened

Refurbish to attract customers that long lost passion to go there, particularly malays. Like the shop i saw outside my house, no much business, after modernise decoration, suddenly very good business until now. People will go wherever that is attract them to go.

Both JPO and GPO are owned by the same JV company. It is scheduled to be opened by second quarter of 2017.

Truly world class entertainment hub. IMO main attractions will be indoor entertainment. Kalau kabus tebal...outdoor tak boleh nak enjoy sgt.

Yes supposedly....

But it will delayed with a soft launch on end 2018, with possibly opening only in early to mid 2019.

So still a long long way to go....

The new hotel will only be opened also around that time...

I hope you are right... Genting Highlands right now is truly hideous.
And most people stay indoors - can hardly enjoy the mountains cause so much concrete everywhere. Not very pleasant to walk outside due to lack of landscaping, streetscaping, the dreary architecture.

A few ideas for Genting to consider given its mountain top setting. I know they can't do this directly but they can at least draw some inspiration on how to take advantage of their mountain top location to create a beautiful hilltop town with nice views.
