Doesn't sound good for Lichfield Carpark

Quote:
Council transport operations manager Aaron Haymes said it was undecided whether the Lichfield St building would be run privately
$100 says Wilson runs it.

Surely that can't be allowed to happen, they would have a monopoly pretty much.

Interesting to read that Antony Gough's The Terrace car parking building will be free to use, you just need to shop in his precinct and the businesses will validate your ticket.

Would be too expensive for the council as Wilsons is a huge company based in Hong Kong with operations all over the world.

This is a very good long article if you get time to read it. Lots of detail on why the building failed and so many missed chances to fix the CTV buildings it fits the swiss cheese model exactly:

Awesome parade today for Team New Zealand despite the awful weather and nice to have the parade route through the central city: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6BtyStRcOM

Yes I was there too and lucky to get a front row view of the parade.

Goto "17 July 1987" third from left.

Cool, only about two days ago I was looking for some images of the tower. Ever found any positive news clippings for it?

Came across that by accident, just thought might be of interest to some who read this forum. The story of the tower was pretty much new to me, was very young in 87, too young to be aware of what was going on on the other island. We had Top Half on when Mainland Touch was showing in Canterbury.

I remember that some Boys High fellas did a prank for the tower in Victoria Sq. They fenced off a corner and put up construction signs on the tower the onlookers were not very happy. They thought it was for real.

Stuff.co.nz journalism at its finest. Disgusting to see this as the top story on their website!

Don't know if others have realised, but it looks like Google Streetview has been updated for the CBD with shots from May/July 2017 now loaded. Looks so much better than the August 2015 shots previously loaded, really cool to see the difference and the progress made in the central city. Its good that Google Streetview for the CBD gets updated regularly because having old shots don't give tourists a good impression when looking on Street view, which many do prior to going places. (and the weather is good which is a bonus on the shots )

I noticed on the Wikipedia article "List of tallest buildings in Christchurch" that there were a number of new highrises proposed. Is that the extent of new tall buildings in Christchurch?

For the moment, we could expect more proposals as the convention centre comes online.

You can see the latest satellite imagery via Google Earth (currently October 2017). It's usually only the crusty stuff though (low resolution, cloud cover), so the Maps imagery only gets updated when they have enough high quality, cloud-free imagery.

I should have specified the 3D view on Google Maps but I didn't see that the 2D view had been updated, thats good as.
