"A mirror set of skyscrapers to the shard further along the south bank?"

Have I missed something or is that news?

This year they are or will be at least 5-8 large scale Vauxhall & Nine Elm projects U/C, truly staggering stuff. If only they did the same at the Greenwich Peninsula and sold off the site in plots rather than give it all to one morbid development company.

A bit more info in BD's article:
Quote:
Twin towers on Market Towers site to be developed by 2017

Plans for the tallest residential scheme in London, designed by KPF, will be developed by a major Chinese investor which has bought the site.

KPF’s £700 million design comprises two towers of 58 and 43 storeys with a mix of residential, offices and retail on a site dubbed One Nine Elms, the site of 1970s development Market Towers.

The completed development will include 487 homes, total more than 100,000sq m and reach a height of around 200m.

John Bushell, principal at KPF, has previously described the project as “a lively new place, providing homes, a hotel, offices, retail and a publicly accessible space at the top of the building”.

“KPF has designed the scheme with slender vertical proportions to mark the threshold of the linear park which runs through the development area,” he said.

Chinese investment and development conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group bought the site last night and is expected to add a five-star hotel to the plans.

Wang Jianlin, chairman of Dalian Wanda Group, said: “The One Nine Elms site stands out as an exciting chance to be part of the transformation of an important part of one of the world’s greatest cities.”

KPF designed the scheme for the site’s previous owner Green Property which had sought to create a high-rise project that would appeal to Far Eastern investors.

Stephen Vernon, chairman of Green Property, said: “Nine Elms is arguably the most exciting regeneration project in Europe and we are proud to have played our part in it.”

The project is scheduled to be completed in 2016/17.
