i feel the flooring that has come out seems to be a bit dull. the one in the render was actually much brighter. i am reposting the pic in previous page for easier comparison.

the design of the floor has clearly changed a bit. the have used very dull looking colors. hope it looks better when all the light are switched on when the mall is fully open.

Malls are revitalising retail with more numbers and newer concepts. A report

Clueless :  There are nearly 19 malls listed here , are they really happening !!!!. Do any of you know whether all these malls are U/C.
Estanicia, Chandra - yes , but others?????!!!!

Futuristic forays
The kaapi and dabba chetti kadais at the corner of your street may become outmoded in the years to come. Chennai is fast moving towards becoming a mall city with many mega shopping space getting ready to open soon. Says A.K Abdullah, Director, Chennai Citi Centre, "The mall scenario would be very competitive over the next few years and would improve on the lines of providing more number of multiplexes, multi-gaming zones, additional space for dining, food courts, parking and a bigger atrium for promotions and events."

Though mega malls like Spencers, Citi Centre and Abirami have been popular spaces in Chennai for some time now, there have been few new entrants. But that is set to change with a flurry of new entrants. Citing the reason for the sudden increase in the number of malls, Ramesh Nair, Managing Director, Chennai, of Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj, a global property consultancy firm says, "Disposable incomes have increased and there is widespread consumerism with many high-end products being available in the market. People are also looking for a unique shopping experience packed with all the fun elements in it. All the more reason why Chennai needed a number of large format malls to come up, that would encompass almost all the needs of a consumer." He further describes that by the end of this year, around 1.1 million square feet of area is coming up in two malls namely, Ampa Skywalk having 3,50,000 square feet of leasable area on Nelson Manickam Road and Express Avenue with 8,50,000 square feet of retail space on Club House Road. Both these malls are expected to revolutionize the concept of mall culture in South India with boutique hotels, exclusive gaming zones and international brands making their entry in Chennai through these malls. Theme malls and speciality malls for gold, home appliances, electronic gadgets, furniture and other home solutions are also expected to dominate the skyline. No reason then, for the customer to complain!

Mall story isn’t small here

...

Cities such as Chennai, which were limited in terms of mall infrastructure with only Spencer Plaza and Citi Centre, will see greater mall churn. The centrally-located Express Avenue, Ampa mall and Chennai Central are expected to cater to this need. The metro will see an extension of two million sq ft across Old Mahabalipuram road, Anna Salai, Velachery and Whites road. Prestige too is set to open the Forum mall next year to tap into suburb, Vadapalani’s large middle-class consumer base.

What is the estimated number of Malls in India? The Big 5 cities should account for 150-200 malls. The Tier 2, 3 cities should be around 100-200malls. I am guessing that the number is close to around 400-500 malls by 2010 end. Maybe I should multiply this 0.5 to be on the safe side: 200-250 malls, that works out to be 8 malls per state on average in the Union.

Skywalk & Chandra Mall

Thanks for the picture. yes the flooring looks dull. And i hope the one in the picture is one of the wings. based on the total floor plan, the mall should be much bigger than what it appears in this picture. btw, which floor is going to house the hyper market and not sure where the food court is coming up.

As regards Chandra Mall, good to note that 4 out of 5 floors have been completed. I think this was scheduled to be launched in Q1 2010.

Mall story isn’t small here ...........
India is emerging out of a slowdown and a revival in retail is seen as shopping centres start coming up in cities big and small. By Sarah Jacob
AT 1.3 MILLION- sqft, Bangalore’s upcoming Mantri Mall is set to clinch the tag of India’s biggest mall. With a 10% higher gross lettable area, all five retail giants — Future Group, Reliance Retail, Tata-Trent, Landmark Gulf Group and Shoppers’ Stop — sharing an address and complete with a 23,000-sqft family entertainment centre, Mantri will outrank Gurgaon’s Ambience mall, the largest operational mall to date.
