This thread is for multiplex and malls projects in and around Chennai Metropolitan.
clearly the exterior design and colors in the pic that i posted have turned out different from the original render. example the Dark Red or Maroon M shaped thing on the side is there with orange and yellow checks. that's quiet ok. but the colors in the frontage have become dull and that may cause the mall to lose its visual appeal.According to the Ampa Mall website, the architect is Cheralathan Associates. I have come across this name before and do not think they are small time operators. The rendering on the website, though colourful, certainly looks interesting and vibrant.
I feel that if it is completed according to the plan as on the website, it will be quite a smart looking landmark. However, I do agree that if the exteriors are not done properly with attention to detail, then it will easily look second class.

In your opinion, what will you call a "mall" ? Will help us understandThe only thing that seperates it from being a shopping comples is the bowling allay and multiplexes. but having them doesnt make it a mall.
good luck selling all those and vegetables in the same "Mall"
??? What exactly looks "like a mall" according to you?Sorry to say but it hardly looks like a mall. Our desi builders are naming everything as mall nowdays.
Back in the days this used to be called a shopping complex.
Cool - will go in with an open mind and a charged camera and hopefully come out impressed!!As per the article it will have a large atrium along with a skywalk. Which means all those who hated its exteriors might happen to like the mall coz of its interiors...
I asked a serious question.. i really want to know what you define as mall...Is it size or stuffIf you guys wanna call a hideous and small box next to a busy street a mall , then its your judgment. We have millions of them in India.
I dont define this term loosely. you guys are mixing an educated and honest judgment with regional nationalism. whatever makes you guys happy.
Just cannot leave Illusionist like that. We need serious definition to know what is a MALL as per his dictionary?I guess illusionist might be mislead by the pics.. Its more than 6L sq.ft.(apart from a multi-storeyed car park) mall which is not small by any Indian Standards..
Anyways its his personal opinion.. Let go of this discussion henceforth..
^^
You're just reiterating your point without valid reason. Malls, shopping complex etc. mean just the same. We accept that this mall is neither humongous nor awesome like some in Mumbai/Bangalore but nonetheless this is a small ""MALL"" in an average city. I believe this is an Englipis problem and definitely not regional love.
Yes, mall and shopping complex mean just the same. In the past they named it as shopping complex, plaza, arcade etc but now its fashionable to name it as mall, like how our govt agencies and promoters call their project as 'world class'.^^
