Don't get too excited, but hoarding is going up on the back corner of this on the Tennant Street and St Martin's Street corner. Doesn't look like much else is happening though.

Never actually realised just how run down this looks!

Any further signs of movement on site? Park Regis website still states a 2014 opening and It was in the planning app that the contractor John Sisk would incur heavy fines if the project wasn't opened on time so I'm guessing its safe to say this one is underway?

This is adjacent to a tough , deprived part of town and so I guess the area assisted in its demise. If maintained over the years it may now qualify as a late 60's early 70's modernist development for, well, saving. I am not saying it should be 'saved', but how ironic we are left with an eyesore struggling to get get going, one way or another.

I always remember the original decoration on the 'tower' part of the building that faced 5 ways. There were very sixties looking shiny glass blocks which reminded of stained glass a little bit (was it lit up at night ???) and the joke was it looked like someone had been sick down the side of the building. Then in about the mid eighties they were thought to be 'dated' and replaced with some very eighties squiggles that currently adorn it and which bare no comparison.

If any of the SSC elves could shed any light on that original sixties design I would be interested. I don't suppose anyone thought the blocks were worthwhile storing somewhere....

I'm sure it's been discussed before and that the original art piece went into storage?

I'd assume the site set up is underway now (hoardings) with those pic's (thankyou by the way) so within 4-6 weeks me thinks.

Shame Pentavia didn't happen but this needs a good old spruce up and it looks good.

Yeah, I guess I mean Ladywood and the housing at either end of Tenant St. You need to be 'aware' when around that area.

When the riots were happening a while back I happened to be making my way through town on foot, noticed things kicking off in an indescrimate way and it was obviously very frightening. I had made my way to 5 ways underpass and thought I was in the clear. Then from the direction of Auchinleck came a marauding mob via the subway. I usually go around in a hoody, so I kept my head down and kept walking. Maybe if I looked like a city gent I would have been mugged. I passed a bloke in a suit who looked like he had been mugged on Broad St.

I really like those earlier renders, pity it got chopped back a bit. I guess it will also provide a bit of useful local employment as well.
