#Projects: New Farm | Teneriffe

I've never seen this 17-storey mixed-use tower mentioned before but it is well under construction (up to about Level 5) on the Newstead/Teneriffe boundary at 49-53 Wyandra Street, Teneriffe. By far the tallest building in Teneriffe for the time being:

I did some digging and it's called Como. It has been substantially redesigned since those drawings were produced and is now 10st instead of 17. I've added it to the list.

Thanks Marty, that makes sense - the crane doesn't look big enough to go to 17st.

Here's a construction photo from the website - you can see Mirvac's Park development in the background, which I think is about two floors from topping out (currently that is - it is more advanced now than is shown in the photo).

There is an old V shaped building with a saw tooth roof on the corner of Commercial Rd, Florence St and Chermside St, it used to have Sol Breads in it.
Currently undergoing a major refurb with a new cafe being fitted to the corner and a the rest being fitted out for what looks like office space.
Love this building, I have a brilliant view of it from my apartment.

We have a new mixed use proposed for 76 Commercial Road, Teneriffe (A003428764). Now, I know I've said in the past that I wanted to see more modern developments using brick in them, but I think I'll take that comment back if using brick means making things that look like this...







Is it just me, or does this looks like something that was built on the Gold Coast 30 years ago!

arches are a massive design fail unless done right. This isnt right.

Looks straight out the 70's or even 60's.

Yeah, I think it's alright. Reminds me of some new apartments being built in Footscray/Yarraville area - they looked cool.

I like brick, but this makes it look like it's going to be an old university building. Reminds me a bit of Z Block at QUT before the demolished it.

If so i think the use of bricks will fit in perfectly especially with all the surrounding wool stores.

Nathan, where it says "preliminary-not for construction" what does that mean?
Is this just a DA for the sake of a DA or to test the waters?
Does it indicate that this is a kite flying exercise and they don't intend to proceed?

I was under the impression that the preliminary designs were used for approvals and then once approved the construction plans were done. The full plans for actually building it would require a lot more detail than council would require.

I live in the Woolstore directly across the road from here and I quite like the brick part but the high rise section leaves me cold. I'm pretty sure my body corp will put in an objection as the height might be higher than the plan allows. I think that area along Commercial Rd needs to be woolstore height and then buildings can step up as they move towards Newstead. Of course they may get around that by having the apartment section stepped back from the street further.
I am glad they are keeping the original building though as basically I really like it. I wonder if it has heritage protection?
