this tower looks taller than it actually is!

The Heron tower in London and the twisted tower in Sarajevo are pretty handsome as well!

That's the advantage of cities which don't have so many skyscrapers. Put the Shard in Midtown Manhattan, and aside from the very top, it will be barely visible.

sarcasm? the shard is a 1,017 feet (310m) tall skyscraper which means if it was in new york, it would still be 5th tallest skyscraper in the entire new york state (just after 1.empire state building, 2.bank of america, 3.chyrsler tower, 4.new york times building). of course this is ridiculously tall for a european city

No, it still wouldn't look that tall. Look at BofA NY (945' roof) f.e., without the spire it would be hardly noticeable. That's why many of us here are very frustrated about the fact that Tower Verre will be only 320m tall. Midtown alone has got 40 skyscrapers over 200m, and of that a couple over 250m. Aside from the very top (see my previous post), the Shard would not be visibile, i.e. surrounded by massive skyscrapers.

But hey, this ain't about Midtown lol. The Shard is a great tower and deserves to be fully visible in the skyline.

I agree with you on this one, it would be a drop in the ocean in mid town that's why it's so perfect for its location in London.

I find Lloyd's Tower the most unique building in Europe. Is it the most beautiful? Debatable.

^ gotta agree with that. i am very much in favor of towers that look sleek and sharp. bank of america tower in new york has always been one of my favorite skyscrapers of all time and royal bank plaza in toronto is also such an eye-catcher.
