JEDDAH l PRO l Crystal City l 300M l Mixed Use

This mixed use development is the focus of a new cultural and residential district at the edge of the Arabian Desert on the outskirts of Saudi Arabia’s second city. The careful articulation of a flexible modular structure gives these twin towers their eroded organic form as they emerge like crystalline stalagmites from a buttressed sandstone base. Rising 300m above the high water mark on the Northeast shore of the Red Sea, the multi-faceted towers scintillate against the intense blue sky. This typology of skyscrapers challenges the precon-ceived notions of verticality and explores the new possibilities of urbanism.

Designer : Iconstrux
Client : Confidental
Date : October, 2006
Location : Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
Size : 1.0MIL sq ft
Team : Chris Doray, Arno Matis, Waqar Aziz, Alasdair Hamilton, John Wong, Kerri West

Renders look amazing but they're too good to be true in Jeddah. The infrastructure of the city, soil in particular, cannot sustain such pressure by such a gigantic project.

A joke was made about such enourmous buildings: "Today it's 300M high, tomorrow it's 200"...

Not to mention the amenities these towers will require (which are most likely not compatible with the present services available). The city's services (Electricity, Telecommunication, Seweage.. etc) need to be upgraded. Not for this sole project but for the future projects as well.

Will they ever be improved? Doubtful but I'm still being optimistic!!

I think the project can be easily funded by any developer but the support is crucial for such a project.

All in all, I like it but I'd LOVE it if (and ONLY IF) it becomes a reality in dear ol' Jeddah!

Any hint on this project? It looks that they paid a quite good amount of money for this design...

Rody, proposed means it might come true and it might not... Any clue from the municipality sources?

I asked him this morning, and he said: "he doesn't know for sure,it looks similar to the first design for (Dubai Towers-Jeddah )
or maybe it's the proposal from "Dallah Al-Barkah":they were planning something like this to be build on the current location of Saleh Kamel palace!!

We need more information one this one. The first rendering is completely different from the second ones. And speaking of Dubai Tower, does anyone know if they are still on the table or have they been canceled already?

Riyadhi, the second rendering is not in Jeddah, it is in Dubai. BizzyBonita has that habit of mixing things and confusing the readers...
