This is the site, on Tenter Street/Lambert Street

From your phots it looks like one of the three corner sites of the big development behind the courtrooms. I thought the plan was to have towers at all 3 gateways...

It was. This is another case of a developer jumping in with a proposal on a site that is supposed to be covered by the Castlemore scheme. Its hard to know which way to jump: if Castlemore never gets off the ground, this is a good proposal; if it does, using this site for a routine lowrise office instead of a highrise is a wasted opportunity. Castlemore need to get their skates on.

Yes, I just spotted whilst walking the Don Walk and head to get photos of Velocity.

It's quite nice, but like Soupcon said, Castlemore need to get their skates on, as if this went up and Castlemore was approved later, this would be a bit of a waste.

Castlemore! - why can I never these damn names. No not that, but it doesn't help.

Is it me or are most of the funky names developers go for instantly forgetable...

Ok I've found out that Castlemore is the name of the developers not the development, but I still think most developments have dull names. Anyway here is the masterplan for the site:

http://www.sheffieldwestbar.com/imag...masterplan.jpg

It does show a tower on this corner, but doesn't seem to have the shards though.

Hang on a sec guys. Don't get uptight, if it's on Lambert Street then it's not on the castlemore site. It's the opposite side of the road. :-P

Lewis' picture is right, but the description is wrong. If you check the link the building is on Bridge Street, roughly under the 'site' of West Bar Site on your plan.

I like your plan by the way.

Ah ok then. So it is on the West bar site. (Unless it's on the other side of the road)

yea, sorry about that everyone. I've got the precise location incorrect. Anyone know where it actually is by the photo? Maybe nearer Bridge Street?

Where on that map would this have gone?

Also, does the IRR not plough right through Castlemore or whatever it's called?

It would have been on the west bar site, on the corner of Plum lane and Bridge street.

And no. The IRR goes down corporation street, and so doesn't cut this out from the centre.

If this is to keep the long-term plan for Castlemore intact, then the council is showing good vision. I actually have a lot of faith in the planning system in Sheffield at the moment, is there something wrong with me?

we can perhaps only hope so.

What was Castlemore to be used for? Aside from making pretty tall buildings

"The Scheme
The plan we have developed is a framework for the development of the site rather than a precise blueprint. It looks at the concepts that underpin the entire scheme; the principles that define the buildings, their relation to one another, their uses, the spaces created by the urban form and the potential types of activity in those landscaped open spaces. We explore the types of buildings and the mix of uses that we think will create an exciting and unique destination in West Bar.

Residential
One of the key goals of the West Bar development is to provide a variety of quality residential accommodations that place emphasise architectural excellence and good design.

The three corner sites are towers that pierce the Sheffield skyline elegantly whilst remaining humane and accessible on the ground floor. All three buildings are to be designed as residential accommodations.

Commercial
West Bar’s proximity to the Courts and other city centre business’ make it an obvious location for commercial development that will attract investment, jobs and capital to the city to enhancing its reputation and providing diversity and career choice for the people of Sheffield.

Retail
The following blocks will have active ground floor usages; cafes, restaurants and other services create supervision for the streets in the scheme, offer choice and convenience for local residents and act as a magnet to those outside West Bar to come and socialise in the area.

Parking
There are two multi-storey car parks in the scheme and some of the buildings will have a basement parking level underneath them. This ensures that the open spaces in the scheme remain pedestrian friendly and uncompromised by excessive traffic through the area.

Live | Work
On the ground floor of this residential block are live/work units created to provide flex-ible commercial space ideal for young or creative businesses."

look at http://www.sheffieldwestbar.com/ for more info. Not sure if this is the latest plan or not. I thought the 2 'shards' were supposed to be in there now, but I'm not sure.

Its about time we had an update on this; how long do they need to consult for? What are the outcomes, how at all are the final plans going to differ, when can we see a planning application, when can I finally get a pint within a short walking distance of the office?? questions, questions, questions.
