^^^^What I dont understand is that, why should we import an e-jeepney all the way from Canada if we have already alot of e-jeepney makers here?

At 12k Canadian dollars or roughly 800k pesos (including other costs), who will buy these..

Anyway, on a positive note, the company that will bring in these vehicles from Canada will definitely help in reducing pollution in Manila as well as it will introduce new technology in e-vehicles in the country.

The Comet, a prototype 16-passenger electric van, is headed to the Philippines today. It will be the first of hundreds of Comets that will replace heavily-polluting diesel jeepneys in the capital city of Manila. Atleast it's electric motor. Umpisa na ito para mabawasan na ang mga jeepneys, baka magkaroon ng competition kapag dumating yang mga E-Vans at ma discouraged na ang mga jeepney makers.

That's the first hurdle e-jeepneys have to make! Unless the industry can make innovations on making a very efficient motor/drive system and a very compact (high AH per kg) battery, I guess the conventional jeepneys will still lord over the EVs!

Welcome E-shuttle, bye-bye PH jeepney

MANILA, Philippines – Is it time to retire the Philippine jeepney?

Clunky, heavy, noisy and one of the primary suspects of air pollution and chaotic traffic in the metro, many have despaired of the jeepney. Though hailed by some Filipinos as a colorful cultural symbol and war-time legacy, many see the jeep as an embodiment of the outmoded transportation system clogging Philippine streets.

Honestly, the jeepneys will still win.

Before this COMET, we already have this:

When the e-jeepneys were launched in 2007, the idea was to replace the jeepneys. Its already 2014 and the jeepneys are still here. Im not too excited about this made in Canada mini-bus called COMET.

Honestly, I dont want to sound negative but I rather go for the locally made jeepneys and e-jeepneys and their improvements. Im more after "inclusive growth" (local manufacturing) than encouraging importation (COMET is all-imported vehicle from Canada) again, which does not in anyway help the country in employing more people and pushing for our industrialization.

The company that introduced the COMET said they're going to use PH as its manufacturing hub.

Taiwan’s TECO eyes electric jeeps

TECO recently teamed up with PhUV, the pioneer in EV mass assembly in the Philippines, and joined the bidding for the government’s $500-million Electric Tricycle Program.

“One thing going for TECO is that the non-EV Philippine market is not new to them. It has been manufacturing electric motors for the last 20 years in its manufacturing facility in Subic Bay, Zambales. It is now ready to expand by producing and selling EV cars and components to the Philippine EV market,” PhUV said in statement.

Marketing is basically to the owners of jeepneys today.

Johnson & Johnson Execs Meet The COMET
by GET Philippines

Marketing is basically to the owners of jeepneys today.
Where are the prospective owners/buyers?
Presenting our kapuso public riders
Rather than a view of investors and of Comet profit motivated capitalists will surely be better method to promote this product.
We need to avoid the sticky handed public officials.
Free enterprise is always the way to go.

Like a UFO sighting, a new jeepney 12L.
The most comfortable jeepney ride ever.

EMotors launches e-trikes in Cebu

by Bernie Magkilat
February 26, 2014

EMotors, Inc. (EMI), the 100% Filipino-owned electric trike (e-trike) maker recently launched its ZUM electric trikes and its flagship branch and first dealership in the Visayas, starting with Cebu’s Mandaue City. “This important milestone marks the start of our nationwide business operations. It also marks the beginning of our long-standing advocacy of poverty alleviation, livelihood and job creation, and climate change mitigation,” said Beth Lee, EMotors CEO.

“With the growth Cebu is experiencing, given that it is a major tourism draw, the use of clean, green, zero-emission e-trikes to shuttle Cebuanos and tourists alike will not only create jobs, yield increased incomes for owners, but serve as a clear commitment to sustainability,” lee said.
