Map of the East West Motorway

Here's a detailed map of the motorway, the information in the centre is about the new motorways being built at present around the capital Algiers, there are three of them. Also theres another huge project to build a second motorway parralel to the one being built now and 1350km long 2 lanes expandable to 3, it should be done by algerian companies and finished by 2015 i think, finally there are projects to connect the major ports with the motorway and the two motorways together.

ALGERIA HAVE LIKE 1000 KM WITH ALL PROJECT DONE
IT WILL BE LIKE 2000 KM HIGHWAY
ALGERIA HAS OVER 100.000 KM ROAD AND 70.000 KM OFF THEM ARE PAVED

Please don't shout so loud.

This project is over 2500km. Someday a continuous motorway from Tanger to Gaza?

I wonder why this road is made 2x3 lanes. Because of truck traffic from Morocco (Casablanca)?

^ The border with Morocco is closed. Btw, did you know there was a motorway (or 4-lane road or whatever) all the way between Cairo and Libya? You can see it on Google Earth. And thanks, icosium.

All the way?

According to my map there is only a 4-lane road between Rass Ajdir (border Libya - Tunesia) and Bishr (265km southwest of Benghazi) and from El Alamein to Cairo. So that leaves over 1000km of 4-lane highway missing... But the map could be wrong, as i mentioned in other threads.

I see. But it ain't much of a motorway. I don't think it's needed there either, the region has almost no signs human presence.

^ What do you mean? It's a 4-lane road all the way. And there are coast cities/towns every now and then.

4-lane don't mean it's a motorway. It hasn't got shoulders all the time, and there aren't much grade-separated crossings. And it's just a city street in some towns. However, it is a fast route, considering there is almost no traffic.

Is the Autoroute Est/Ouest really 1216km all 2x3?!?

If so, I don't understand why the need for 2x3 all along the route. Because I guess a 2x2 motorway would be more than enough for most of the length of it.

Well, Algeria has a fast growing population, and of the total population of 33 million, this new Autoroute will serve almost the entire population of Algeria, since most population is centered in the north.

Even so. I don't believe there's enough traffic in between the cities, in a coutry the size o Algeria. If it was a 200 km's motorway serving some big cities, it wouldn't surprize me, but in a country with the density if Algeria and in a motorway of that lenght, I find it very hard to believe 2x2 wouldn't be more than enough for almost the entire length of it.

It's not about being petty... there's a huge diference between a motorway and a 4 lane road with same level intersections, etc...
Would a call a city avenue (2x2) a motorway?
