LEICESTER | Waterside Projects (excluding Simpson Towers)

I thought I'd create a 'Leicester Waterside' thread to encompass all the exciting proposed and hopefully soon to be proposed developments. This will not include the obvious three Simpson towers, which have their own thread. Some schemes will have their own threads.

Leicester's 12 or so miles of rivers/canals have huge potential, with the focus being on the central part of Leicester. Please see the Leicester Regeneration masterplan for more info: http://www.leicesterregeneration.co.uk

Various companies are competing to produce Leicester's own waterside masterplan; an announcement on the successful company will be made soon. Again refer to the LRC website above.

Westbridge Wharf, Bath Lane (3 apartment blocks, with the smallest yet to be complete) U/C

Freeman Meadows, Upperton Road (Town houses and apartments), U/C
Described as one of the most exciting projects in Europe.

Former BUSM site development of apartments/townhouses and other amenities, plus a piazza:

L1 Apartments, Filbert Street, Approved:

There is also a scheme by Wilson Bowden Developments for 153 apartments and a restaurant with planning permission granted. This is next door to the tallest of the Simpson towers on Bath Lane. As yet there are no renders i know of.

There may be more projects in the pipeline, as this is just a taster!

The De Montfort uni development looks nice. Are there anymore renders for this project?

The first render in the main list looks good but Im not sure about the first one in your second post.
Hopefully the materials that are going to be used will be of a high quality as most of it looks like it could be some sort of metal. Zinc cladding maybe.

Maybe; however to be honest it may be that generic grey plasticy material and brick that is so often now used in many modern buildins.

Here's a relatively recent photo I took near to the Simpson Towers site (originally posted in Leicester thread). This is the view looking west, showing the larger, first built, apartment blocks of the Westbridge Wharf scheme and to the immediate right is where the two smaller towers will be:

Do you think we should split some of the projects out of this waterside thread into individual threads? De Montfort University, the old Town, Leicester College (which is a big plan overall), Abbey Meadows and Blackfriars all deserve thread status.

Makes it easier to keep track and should in turn make the forum busier...

That would be nice however the subforum may become cluttered.

excellent work once again rs! Didn't realise this much going on - and this is just the start! Can't wait! I wish the buildings around the space centre are equally "spacey" - it would be a shame to build just more identikit glass and plastic panelled buildings like everywhere else.

Thanks moseeds,

I think more consideration will be going into the buildings around the space centre (I hope anyway), esepcially as they have no definite renders so far.

This is the bridge that will be built between Western Boulevard and the Freeman Meadows development over the River Soar/canal:

Source: Atkinson Design Associates

This is a bridge proposed as part of the latter phases of Pearmain Developments in Abbey Meadows:

source: Pearmain Developments website

There was another render of a different sortof bridge but that's no longer on the website.

They're not building a bridge at Freemans meadow now, it's going to be flat! Obviously some sort of bridge will be required, but it won't be the one above.

Really?

Well, they're definitley going to need another access route, other than the congested Upperton Road, especially making it easier for pedestrians and cyclists.
