The Pointe at Saadiyat Island

The Point is an 884,645 square meter (approx.) natural peninsula that is an extension to Saadiyat Island. Saadiyat Island is being developed as a comprehensive mixed-use development by TDIC. The Point is envisioned as a mixed-use Community oriented to the water and designed to minimize impacts to the most sensitive portions of the land.

I'd be surprised if this was built as the renders show. Are they just going to demolish the palaces that are out there already? Not to mention the rather large mechanical/facility building sitting in the "Luxary Town" area. I've been out there and it's a monstorus building sitting right up against the water with all kinds of pipes coming in and out of it...possibly for local desalinization. In any event it's most likley important and not very easily moved or rerouted. We'll see, but it would be nice if they open up that part of the island.

Saadiyat Island will welcome its first nursery school this year.

Quote:
Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) said on Wednesday it has signed an agreement to open the first nursery school on Saadiyat Island.
The master developer of major tourism, cultural and residential destinations in Abu Dhabi said the deal has been inked with Kids First Group, an internationally-recognised academic operator.
The Redwood Saadiyat Nursery, which is due to open later this year, will adopt a curriculum based on the specialised world-renowned Montessori Method.
The Montessori philosophy of teaching is an educational approach developed by Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori in 1897.

This international method is based upon actual observations of children complemented by training in medicine, psychology, anthropology and philosophy, while ensuring the sustained wellbeing of each child through an innovative and progressive learning environment.
Ahmed Al Fahim, executive director of Marketing, Communications, Sales and Leasing at TDIC, said: "We are proud to host Redwood Saadiyat Nursery, particularly that it will offer a curriculum based fundamentally on a model of human development.
"Saadiyat is fast becoming a vibrant community with more residents making the island their home, while the nursery is our next step to serve residents of Saadiyat as well as Abu Dhabi city with an essential education phase for their kids."
The nursery complements the educational projects currently being developed on Saadiyat, which include New York University Abu Dhabi - being developed by Mubadala - and Cranleigh Abu Dhabi school.
TDIC said the crucial education stages - from pre-school up to university level - will be available on Saadiyat by 2014.

TDIC releases 38 new Saadiyat Island plots

Quote:
ABU DHABI // Plots of land on Saadiyat Island are being released for commercial use by the Tourism Development and Investment Company.

The developer of major tourism, cultural and residential destinations said it had released 38 plots situated in the Saadiyat Marina District, which will become home to New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) next year.
The plots, which make up the neighbourhood surrounding the NYUAD campus, range in size from between 2,100 and 5,100 square metres.
Ahmed Al Fahim, the executive director of marketing, communications, sales and leasing at the company, said yesterday that the plots will be developed to meet the needs of the university, which will be home to about 2,600 students when it opens.
It will also serve the needs of the residential communities on Saadiyat and visitors to the island.
"The release of these commercial land plots for sale comes after the delivery and opening of a number of projects on Saadiyat, which have started to shape the island, making it more attractive for interested investors," said Mr Al Fahim.

First glimpse of Louvre Abu Dhabi's treasures

Quote:

ABU DHABI // Art lovers had their first glimpse last night of the treasures that await when the eagerly anticipated Louvre Abu Dhabi opens its doors in 2015.

Birth of a Museum showcases 130 artworks from the museum's permanent collection. Officially opened by Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, the National Security Adviser and Vice Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, it runs until July 20 at Manarat Al Saadiyat.

Among the guests were Jean-Luc Martinez, the new president-director of the Louvre in Paris, who was on his first international visit since assuming his new role, and the Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, who designed the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

"This project is a very important one, the most important one," Mr Martinez said. "It's a great opportunity for France to do this museum here in such a country and I would like to thank this government for making this possible. It's really an honour for France and for my museum.

"It's just the beginning of an adventure between France and this country, but not only between France and this country. For all the world, I'm sure of that.
"The architectural project from Jean Nouvel, it's very, very impressive. We are sure that this museum will be one of the most impressive and amazing museums in the world - it's not only for the tourists, but for my profession too, we are building here a big step in the history of museums."

Mr Martinez hopes to visit Abu Dhabi every couple of months to speak to the team overseeing the project.

Looks like I spoke too soon. They recently did demolish the large industrial structure near the private palace that resembles a South Pacific villa with thatched roof. Here are some pics...
