EIGHT CHANGES FOR BOKS TO FACE ALL BLACKS

Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has made eight changes to his team for their first Vodacom Tri-Nations Test for 2009 from the one that lost by 9-28 to the British & Irish Lions earlier this month.

There are a further seven changes to the Springbok bench for the All Black Test, which kicks off at Vodacom Park in Bloemfontein on Saturday at 17h00.

Zane Kirchner, Odwa Ndungane, Jongi Nokwe, Wynand Olivier, Morné Steyn, Ryan Kankowski, Johann Muller and Chiliboy Ralepelle all started the third Test against the Lions at Coca-Cola Park on July 4, but are no longer in the starting XV.

They make way for Frans Steyn, JP Pietersen, Jean de Villiers, Bryan Habana, Ruan Pienaar, Pierre Spies, Bakkies Botha, who returns from a two-match suspension, and Bismarck du Plessis. Olivier, Steyn, Kankowski and Ralepelle have all been included on the Springboks’ bench for the Test against the All Blacks.

Two Boks – De Villiers and Habana – will play in their 49th Tests for South Africa, while Fourie du Preez (47th) and Jaque Fourie (46th) are both approaching the milestone of 50 Tests for the Springboks.

Jannie du Plessis, who was not involved in the Test series against the British & Irish Lions, has been included as reserve-prop on the bench.

The Springbok team is (Test caps in brackets):

15. Frans Steyn (30)
14. JP Pietersen (26)
13. Jaque Fourie (45)
12. Jean de Villiers (48)

10. Ruan Pienaar (30)
9. Fourie du Preez (46)
8. Pierre Spies (22)
7. Juan Smith (57)
6. Heinrich Brüssow (4)
5. Victor Matfield (83) – vice-captain
4. Bakkies Botha (57)
3. John Smit (84) – captain
2. Bismarck du Plessis (24)
1. Tendai Mtawarira (13)

Reserves:

16. Chiliboy Ralepelle (4)
17. Jannie du Plessis (7)
18. Danie Rossouw (38)
19. Ryan Kankowski (8)
20. Ricky Januarie (35)
21. Morné Steyn (3)
22. Wynand Olivier (22)

quire a controversy regarding ticket sales for the games...apparently no one is buying tickets for the all the games in SA, maybe its our way of telling them the prices are too high, theyve now dropped prices from R400 to R300...

Nice high tempo game, we didnt give the AB's a chance to settle in. Exellent work in the first half but the AB's defence was good. Pitty about Ruans kicking, other than that I think he had a blody good game. His vision and creativty got us many of the penalties he missed.
Oh well it wont be the same next week in Durbs, hopefully I can get some tickets!!!

lol, understand I should moan to pay R30 for a ticket to the Dolphins games when I was in school

I dont think it gets any better in Internationals than SA vs NZ

Sad to see Ruan is out of the squad due to his injury. Also Kanko is out completely! Spies had a good game, but not sure on the decision to leave him out altogether from the squad, but the good news is that Adi Jacobs is back!

Adi is my man... regarding spies he is an awesome player but with him missing the world cup with a "pulmonary embolism" is a crock of shit if you ask me, im 3rd year med student, and i know exactly what a pulmonary embolism is and im sorry but his excuse was lame... i have my other theories about why he missed the world cup and i have many mates in the sport science field who have validated my theory... it would stir up alot of shit and controversy...lets just say that noone in the world can get so huge in 1 year just by gymming... anyway he is an aewsome player and i can see why kanko is having to fight for a place in the team

Something tells me your theories dont sound Kousher & I see what you mean but yes it could open up a huge can of worms, but regarding Kanko's exclusion Im not phased at least his back for the Sharks!

Guys, we are playing Oz and Nz here - I dont care if Spies is taking horse steroids via the ASS as long as we win.
And he doesn't get caught...

Just a little stat as well to whet your whistles...if we win this years 3N, we will hold the -

World Cup - World Champions
Sevens Title - World 7's Champions
S14 - Bulls (SA) Champions

Plus the series win over B&I Lions, plus our unbeated European tour end of last season, including a record whupping of England at Twickenham.

So, add the Tri-nations to that list, and hot damm - we OWN world rugby.

BRYAN, JEAN REACH 50 BOK TESTS

Springbok coach Peter de Villiers made three changes to the match 22 that beat the All Blacks by 28-19 in Bloemfontein last weekend – one in the starting fifteen and two on the bench – for Saturday’s second Vodacom Tri-Nations Test against New Zealand at the Absa Stadium Durban.

At flyhalf, Morné Steyn starts ahead of Ruan Pienaar, who was not considered because of injury. Lock Andries Bekker returns in the place of loose-forward Ryan Kankowski on the bench, along with fit-again centre Adi Jacobs, who takes Morné Steyn’s place amongst the reserves.

Springbok wing Bryan Habana and centre Jean de Villiers will both earn their 50th Test caps for South Africa, while Bok captain John Smit becomes the sole record-holder for the most experienced Test captain ever.

Habana, the International Rugby Board’s Player of the Year for 2007 and SA Rugby’s Player of the Year in 2005 and 2007, made his Springbok debut as a replacement against England on November 20, 2004 at Twickenham. With 33 Test tries he is second behind Joost van der Westhuizen on the list of top try scorers for South Africa.

De Villiers, SA Rugby’s Player of the Year for 2008, made his Springbok debut on November 9, 2002 in Marseilles against France. Because of injury he only played his second Test against the Pacific Islands in Gosford on July 17, 2004. Of his 49 Tests to date, De Villiers has played 11 on the wing and 38 at centre. He will equal De Wet Barry’s record for Bok Tests at centre this weekend, with 39.

Smit will lead the Boks for the 60th time in his 86th Test. Last weekend he equaled the record previously held by Wallaby skipper George Gregan and England’s Will Carling.

The Springbok team is (Test caps in brackets):
15. Frans Steyn (31)
14. JP Pietersen (27)
13. Jaque Fourie (46)
12. Jean de Villiers (49)
11. Bryan Habana (49)
10. Morné Steyn (4)
9. Fourie du Preez (47)
8. Pierre Spies (23)
7. Juan Smith (58)
6. Heinrich Brüssow (5)
5. Victor Matfield (84)
4. Bakkies Botha (58)
3. John Smit (85) – Captain
2. Bismarck du Plessis (25)
1. Tendai Mtawarira (14)

Reserves:
16. Chiliboy Ralepelle (5)
17. Jannie du Plessis (8)
18. Andries Bekker (15)
19. Danie Rossouw (39)
20. Ricky Januarie (36)
21. Adi Jacobs (23)

the number of empty seats at the stadium is disgraceful (shameful actually) ....SA supporters really letting us down along with the rugby administrators...
