Is this the design that will be built? How ugly.

Edit: Snap!

A 20 storey Hotel is not to be sniffed at though.

In comparison it will be the same height as the MBS Hotel.

Oooh. These renders are smart. Some slight modification to the top half?

I wasn't questioning your taste: You appeared to be suggesting it was a missed opportunity not to have more windows facing the square. I was trying to explain why that is.

If I am wrong then I apologise, but I am sure you complained about either 2SPS or Cambridge Street?

This will be OK in the end, promise.
Indeed. It's a filler building - it's so packed in you're never going to see it in whole, but I think they've smartly taken cues from the two new buildings it'll sit by and turned it into something distinctive. Smart.

The council have to reject this in its current form. It doesn't need massive changes but it does need full windows instead of blank walls. Same for the side that faces the town hall, in that it needs double windows. I can't imagine this being passed next to St Paul's in London so there's no excuse for such a large, drab and low budget proposal in the area next to the Town Hall either.

No they don't. As for the bit that faces the town hall...the building is pretty much hidden by 2SPS so won't be visible from the town hall, especially at ground level.

Far worse have been passed near St Paul's.

Those blank walls are...y'know...walls. You can't have windows in all directions and you'd struggle to find a view where this and the Town Hall are actively in shot at the same time.

I can't say I'm a fan. It's a very fussy and inelegant design.

I am aware that the building has two uses but it looks like two separate bulidings on top of each other.

It's intentionally blocky. Like it's made out of lego. It grows on me every time I see it.

The other two Motel One branches look OK I think, better than anticipated. This one will be fine too, largely hidden by the prettier sisters in front of it.

Looks like we might be getting something taller behind it?

I think that's just meant to be the shadow of City Tower for some context.

The bottom half looks good, but agree that the windowless facades worry me. It's also more worrying given the fact that it won't densiy up aroun dit to hide those windowless facades.

It's not bad proposal, and I like where they are trying to go, but they haven't quite achieved it in my opinion. Elements work, but other elements look messy and incoherent.

Agree that with some minor alterations, this could look much better. I bemoan the loss of the previous proposal though. That was a classy building and very much looked forward to it being built...

I'd love for this at 4 St. Peter's to go up at the same time.

I think it'll be a bit rubbish. I'm only going on the fact that both of the previous Motel One builds have been a bit rubbish too. At least its mostly hidden by 1+2 St Peter's Sq and replacing something awful anyway.

Personally I'd reject any Motel One proposal on the basis it'll end up with their awful logo stuck to the side of it. I'd wish they'd employ a decent (or even 1/2 decent) graphic designer to sort out the font at least... I reckon whoever did the render made their logo deliberately a bit fuzzy to disguise its awfulness as they were too embarrassed to stick a clearer version on their 3D CAD work...
