Amsterdam houseboats to be connected to sewers
AMSTERDAM, May 25 (Reuters) - Years after many of Amsterdam's world famous houseboats were connected to cable television and broadband Internet, the next innovation awaits: sewers.
All of the estimated 3,000 houseboats in Amsterdam and its surroundings have to be connected to the sewers in the next few years and will not be allowed to empty their toilets into the Dutch city's canals, local authorities said on Friday.
Dutch news agency ANP reported that the communities will provide access to the sewer system directly to the boats and the owners have to deal with the installation inside the boats.
Some houseboats have already connected to the sewerage system voluntarily.
