BAGUIO CITY, Feb. 25 (PIA) -- SM City Baguio officials joined by city government heads and celebrity guests, marked the planting of the 30,000th tree in support of the National Greening Program (NGP) within the mall premises in the heart of Baguio last Wednesday.

The “Green Road to 50,000” photo exhibit was also opened inside the mall featuring photos during their tree planting activities in the city and surrounding communities.

As they marked the 30,000th tree they have planted, SM also launched a green promo giving away free pine tree sapling to shoppers for every P1,500 single purchase or accumulated receipts from February 22 to 24.

SM VP for Operations Engineer Bien Mateo, in an interview, disclosed that when they started the project, they made commitment, especially to the City of Baguio, to plant 30,000 trees in two-years time, but as they plant their 30,000th tree, comes their commitment to continue with their green advocacy.

The advocacy to plant 30,000 trees started in January of 2012, wherein more than 1,000 volunteers from different public and private organizations, which include the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, City Environment and Parks Management Office, the Baguio Regreening Movement, Baguio Water District, Philippine National Police, 911 Rescue Group, Philippine Air Force, and from several local government units, have joined SM in its various tree planting activities.

Aside from the mall grounds, SM and its partners have already planted tree saplings in their adopted part of the Busol Watershed, Burnham Park, various city school grounds, as well as in an area in Tuba, Benguet.

Mateo said these activities are ways promoting public awareness especially to the young ones the importance of planting trees even in their own backyards towards the preservation of the environment for the future generations.

Under the SM Cares, a flagship program under SM’s Corporate Social Responsibility projects, the company partners with private groups, national government agencies and city government departments in tree planting activities and in ensuring the growth and survival of the trees. It also includes waste management and recycling system. (JDP/CCD-Jan Robert Nicandro, PIA CAR intern)

Anyone of you guys who could help me out? preferably may access with PAGASA...

I'm looking for the OFFICIAL recorded wind speeds of the following typhoons and the stations they were recorded

SENDONG (Washi) 2011
PEDRING (Nesat) 2011
JUANING (Nock-ten) 2011
MINA (Nanmadol) 2011
BEBENG (Aere) 2011
JUAN (Mitag) 2010
BASYANG (Conson) 2010

QUINTA (Wukong) 2012
72 kph - Bacolod (c/o Meteomedia Station)
70 kph Cadiz (c/o Meteomedia Station)
I'm still looking for a PAGASA Station that recorded the highest windspeed (Guiuan? Borongan? Tacloban? Mactan? Roxas? Iloilo?)

PABLO (Bopha) 2012
100 kph Lumbia (PAGASA)
110 kph Dumaguete (PAGASA)
80 kph Bislig (c/o Meteomedia)
These measurements are obviously far cry from the actual effects of the typhoon and doesn't reflect Pablo's record-holding technical measurements

PAGASA estimates during landfall was 185 kph (max sust) to 250 kph (gust) on a 10-minute average but no PAGASA station has recorded such. JTWC and NOAA puts it at 259 kph but those are radar measurements. Does PAGASA have a Hinatuan Station? That was the nearest synoptic station that could have recorded. I dunno how much did PAGASA Davao measured since it was also within the vicinity.

I hope to have a favorable response from you guys. Just don't hesitate to PM me. Those who could provide the official info I am looking for will be acknowledged for their efforts when the latest edition of the Philippine Typhoon Records will be published this year.

Madamo gid nga Salamat!

here's the actual record I am currently working on:

Baguio Looks not Nice now, how come. I plan to visit Baguio Next next week after spending a few days in Manila for Vacation. I hope I can still feel the feeling I felt there when I was vacationing 10 years ago.

Hey folks, this is not a sentiment or a complaint of some sort, but yes, Baguio DOES NOT look nice now as it is back in the '70s.

I'm on my early 20s but it was only this past February when I set foot in the City of Pines for the first time. I was totally stunned by those mountains literally covered with houses and buildings, which made me feel sad and a little worried, thinking what the city would look like in the next few years or so. And yes, I understand this "population growth" thing, but can't the local government do something to offset or control the commercialization?

I can only imagine what my mom shared to us that back in the '70s, pag nag-salita ka daw, literal na may nalabas na usok sa iyong bibig dahil sa sobrang lamig.

Sarkastiko pa nga biruan namin ng ermats ko during our 3-day vacation (cut short dahil milieu ng city ngayon), sabi ko, 'mas malamig pa pala sa Tagaytay e...kasing lamig lang pala ng Baguio dun sa atin e...' which if you'd ask me, mas mahangin pa sa Dasmariñas, Cavite during that time.

And mentioning Tagaytay, it's soon to be on equal footing with the Summer capital -- painit na nang painit.
