Here is a photo page of random pictures of Cardiff that i have taken and will take.
Cardiff is the Capital city of Wales, one of the 4 countries that make up the UK.
It has an official population of 325,000 but over 1 million people live within 20 minutes of the city. Its a city with a large mix of modern and old, with a very compact city center, and is a very green city with large parks and a wonderful waterside.
The 5 star st davids hotel, built when this whole area was run down and the mud flats had only just been covered by the 1 billion pound barrage, which stops the fresh water from the two rivers that flow into the bay escaping.
The animal wall, the Marquis of Bute (who owned the castle and docks) wanted a zoo, but being declined by the council instead build these sculptures as if they were escaping from one
^^ Yes there were quite alot of Italian imigrants to South Wales to work in the mines as Italy was going through alot of turbulance at the time. Also this building is called the Queens building (not sure if that is significant in any way though)
The Coal Exchange, where the global price of coal was set (think in terms of modern day oil and you have an idea of the wealth that went through here), now undergoing a slow refurbishment into a multiple of uses
Roath park lake, a beautiful area of the city (called Roath) surrounded by stunning victorian villas and mansions, the park is in two parts, one half the lake the other ornamental gardens and a very large recreational green. It has a lovely shopping street that leeds onto the more trendy studenty areas of Roath.
Thanks, i was really pleased with them. Its all to do with being in the right place at the right time (in this case 7AM on one of the largest snow falls in recent history)...oh and having a decent camera. Anyway your shots are good so i wouldnt worry!
Office block on Callaghan square, a modern in progress office development
You should definately spend a few days in Cardiff Wapper. Always surprises me how surprised people are when they see what Cardiff looks like Arrgh, glad you are impressed. thanks for the history cybertect, it would be fascinating to see what all the canals were like and if they were a great loss or a great improvement to get rid of them.
