Some travel advice please
Not sure if this is the right so feel free to move but myself my mate and his mrs are thinking of visiting Bucharest the week before Easter. Can anyone advise what there is to do in and around the city during both the day and night, being mostly British we do enjoy a drink or ten. We are not sure whether to stay three nights or four.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks |

you definitely should try one of the free guided tours http://guided-bucharest.com/ and the bus city tour http://bucharestcitytour.ratb.ro/index_eng.html
also, you should visit the two great parks of Bucharest, Herastrau and Cismigiu and the communist symbol, the Parliament or The House of People. don't worry about drinking and having fun, Bucharest is full of good pubs and night clubs. The Romanian Peasant Museum and Romanian Village Museum are nice places to see.[The Romanian Peasant Museum/ / Romanian Village Museum / I recommend you to stay 4 nights because is good for you to have enough time and to be relaxed. Pay attention at the taxi's, probably you know that they try to get more from you if you are a stranger. You better get the 783 bus for the city center and the 780 bus if you are interested to get to the north railway station. This is the link for all buses programs and maps. For long distances traveling but not only for that, you can use the Metro: Bucharest Metro Website More important info: http://www.romaniatourism.com/trip-planner.html Sorry for my English , I hope I helped you and if you have more questions, we will be happy to answer. I hope you'll have a great time here in Bucharest !

Some fashionable locations (and also affordable I'd say) to eat and have a drink:
http://www.carucubere.ro/en/homepage Also, a nice location could be Hanul lui Manuc: http://unknownbucharestdotcom.files....-manuc-010.jpg Also, just before Easter celebrations, there are traditional fairs taking place in Bucharest's main parks, Cismigiu and Herastrau, where you can enjoy some traditional snacks, sweets and also buy souvenirs, like painted eggs, pottery, handmade small objects and traditional costumes.

Thanks for the advice folks. I have another question if I may.
How are the trains to Brasov or Constanta from Bucharest? I have read that it can take longer by train than by car. Is it worth looking at hiring a car or going by coach/bus to visit either of these places or would the train be okay. I appreciate the help. |

![]() The train from Bucharest to Brasov is OK. The conditions are good and the speed is decent. It takes about 2 and a half hours (fastest) to get to BV by train.

It's approximately the same when comparing the costs.
The railway to Constanta will take you there in 3:30 hours (between 3:00 and 4:00h), whereas the bus in 3 hours sharp. Also, during the summer usually there are at least 5-6 daily trains, while the bus has fixed schedule, there is always a bus going to Constanta once every 45 minutes, from 5:00 AM to around 21:00 PM. Hiring a car could also be a good solution, as you are 3 or 4 persons sharing the costs, but I don't recommend this solution as it will take much of your attention and time. P.S. I don't see what can you do in Constanta in that period, unless you are more into cultural tourism and sightseeing. ![]() Going to the Danube Delta would be a better alternative if you ask me, as there are less mosquitos and the weather is just fine. You can also experience Easter with the Lipovan-Russian community living there for centuries. They are an isolated community practicing an old form of Orthodoxism, in the Easternmost point of the EU.

If you want to see the Black Sea go to Constanta...but you have nothing to see in this period of year. I recommend you to visit Sibiu instead.
