It's impossible to say how old Lisbon is. But it's suppose to be the oldest city in western Europe.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...itation#Europe It already existed when the Phoenicians started commerce with the Iberian/Celts that lived there, this was around 1200 BC (called Allis Ubbo by the Phoenicians). The Greeks that also came here to commerce and called it Olissipo. When the Romans conquered it in 139 BC, it was already an important commerce city in Iberia. Phoenician structures inside an old cathedral. http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ficheir...Cloisters1.jpg

My city:
Plovdiv (Bulgaria) was originally a Thracian settlement known as Philippopolis to the Greeks, and was a major city for the Romans. Evidence of habitation dates back 6,000 years. Last edited by Rumex; April 10th, 2013 at 03:21 PM. |

My city, Almere isn't even 50 years old. The first house was finished in '76 and it officially became its own municipiality in '84. It is built on completely artificial land reclaimed from a former inland sea that has been turned into a large fresh-water lake, and now has around 200.000 inhabitants. It is named after a large lake that existed in the post-roman dark ages known as the Aelmare; this lake eventually turned into the Zuiderzee, in direct contact with the north sea, after a series of catastrophic floods and raised sea levels.
