* Groundbreaking for Pakistan’s tallest building in May

Staff Report

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has approved the construction of a commercial centre, Shaikh Zayed Complex, on Ferozepur Road. The centre, consisting of a basement and three towers, will house a shopping mall, hotels, corporate offices and mini cinemas. Its construction will start next month.

The DHABI Group of United Arab Emirates will construct the tallest building in Pakistan over an area of 91 kanals at a cost of Rs 15 billion.

The meeting was informed that the centre’s banquet hall would have a seating capacity of around 5,000 and its four parking basements would have space for around 4,000 vehicles.

The chief minister said that the Punjab government and the DHABI Group would soon sign an agreement to form a company, named Taawan, to execute the project. He said that the company would have directors both from the Punjab government and the DHABI Group.

Elahi said that Shaikh Zayed Complex would play an important role in generating economic activity in the province and would improve the living standard of the people.

Bashir Tahir, the DHABI Group chief executive, Kamran Rasool, the Punjab chief secretary, Salman Siddique, finance secretary, Sibtain Fazal Haleem, communication and works secretary, and Pervaiz A Shahid, the Bank Alflah executive incharge, attended the meeting.

Tahir said that his group was launching several projects in telecommunication, banking and other industries in Pakistan. He said that Shaikh Zayed Complex would give an impetus to trade and business activities.

Raza,

Thank you for bringing the point up. Pakistan just launched a $11bn real estate project. Probably one of the biggest on-going project on SSC. But a very few replies. Its hard to change the mentality, because most people on here associate Pakistan wtih Afghanistan, until they visit Pakistan, and reality hits them.

Pakistan is booming, and the economy is developing at a rapid pace.

But I think more Pakistani members should discuss projects. The Pakistanis on this forum don't even discuss the projects, so no one else does either.

Anyways, as they say in the West, 'Don't hate, Appreciate'.

So Lahore will get skyscrapers too? Good. I have heard about the supertall Port Tower in Karachi. I don't know why, but for some reason I think it seems they are built of LEGO in the first rendering.

lahore is rapidly changing, its gdp growth rate has doubled in the last 4 years and is very high.
malls are appearing left right center. there are a few high risers for the city is well. a 40 storey 6 star hotel and 2 big towers (rumored to be around 50 storeys each) for another hotel.
Then there is also asias largest shopping mall to be made in bahria town, and not to forget how promising bahria town is looking.
there is also many new housing schemes appearing which have very nice stylish houses, there was recently a billion dollar scheme lauched called lake city. DHA is also rapidly getting larger and larger.

Yup, and lots of them. Another one was announced today, but I don't have renderings. .. The PTC (supertall) is in final agreements, and construction should begin soon, Insh'Allah. The rendering isn't really good, its a screenshot taken off Tv during the news, not even a proper render ..Lets hope to see a good render soon.

I dont' like the style. Looks like they want to look-like another projects, you only need to see the metro or underground parking entrance in the big square.

the style of the building SUCKS! It is nearly a torture looking at the building and they have taken quite a few ideas from the Emirate towers, which by the way are very stylish buildings in exchange... I'd give this one 2 out of 10!

Fahed,

The video is just a news clip. You can watch it at the following link,

http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=S...id-Twin-Towers

The same render was shown in the news clip, it just looked better. The agreement for this contract was signed by the Punjab State Govt, and UAE's Dhabi Group.

I think the building will look much better once completed.

My pleasure Fahed. Construction begins next month (May). I'll try and get updates as the project moves towards completion. This is a very exciting project along with tons of other projects. !

The Dhabi Group is trying to build the tallest in Pakistan, lets see if its tall enough to beat the up-comming highrises. Very interesting time to be in Pakistan.

PS: Its good to see arab investment finally moving to Pakistan. Together we shall prosper.

It looks like competion has finally started to spur in Pakistan relating to the highrises. I think we will now rapidly see companies trying to build the highest and the best now. We will not olny see the height increase but also the quality and design.

Well, 4B marketing announced today that they'll build the biggest hotel in Pakistan, which would be a highrise, apart from Hashoo Group's 40-storey PC.

Unless this tower is over 60-storey's, it'l fail to get the 'tallest in Pakistan' title. Bahria already has plans for a 60-storey tower, at Clifton, in Karachi.
