CLUJ-NAPOCA - CFR Stadium (23,500 -> 30,000)

The stadium of CFR was built by club's owner in 2008 with 23 million of euros. It is a 3 stars category stadium, the biggest category being the one of 4 stars (like National Arena from Bucharest or new Ion Moina from Cluj).

There are currently discussions because the response of the Cluj Council was affirmative regarding the expansion. The owner of CFR requested at least 15 million of euros from budget to bring the arena at Elite Category.

Capacity: 23.500 -> 30.000
Covered seats: 15.095 -> 22.500
VIP parking places: 114 -> 150
VIP seats: 305 -> 500
Lights: minimum 2.000 l
Protocol VIP area: minimum 400 m2 (current 200 m2)
Radio & TV spots: minimum 25 (current 8)
Spectators evacuation routes: minimum 4 (currently 2)
Mass-media working areas: minimum 75 (currently 50)

There are no more stars, just Elite Categories ( 1, 2, 3 and 4 ).
Under star classification, National Arena was a 5 star stadium, now it's CAT 4.

So far this is rather a project, no render and exact data yet. I heard they are going to build the 4th stand where the street is after they will get rid of some houses maybe and eventually bring the old stand to the size of the newer ones.
The stadium is superb for football, too bad CFR isn't a team with many fans, though their number will rise in the Cluj County since the city is more for "U".

Imagine the owners of those houses rubbing their hands, when the news came out. There were a lot of complaints from residents in the area surrounding the stadium because of the level of noise during match days. Now some of them can buy a nice villa in a quite neighbourhood.

I agree. Definitely one of the best football-only stadiums in Romania. Even with that one stand missing, there is a great atmosphere and sound during sold-out games.

And the whole area is jammed during games, never been there but I can imagine it's a horror for the residents while 20k+ people are going to a game and there's only narrow streets on that hill and everybody has to present ID's if they don't have a ticket.

This is where the new stand will be:

Yep , like Calderon from Atletico Madrid or Dublin
Whatever, this project it seems to me totally useless.
And btw, that stand will have 6500 seats? I really doubt.

Uhm, that's highly improbable, plans were to build a small end stand of about 2k seats at the north end, thus not affecting any neighbouring properties. There is, however, possible to rebuild the first stand, the smallest one of them all, and make it bigger.

that's pretty abusive. Worst thing on this photo is the crappy stadium cladding.

That would be a good idea, but they could also try a Calderon or Dublin type of stand .
Of course, now it's going to be like the Aviva Stadium, with one stand small compared to the others.
The old stand will be demolished to build one similar to the other 2 or are they going to add a floor?
