Qtya's trip, Part III.: Czech section

Photos of the D2, D1 motorways, the Praha bypass and the Main road 6 (expressway?) in the Czech Republic from Sunday when my family and I were heading towards Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. Still can't drive, but I could still compare the highway systems of the CE nations. My opinion is that by judging Hungarion M1, M15, Slovakian D2, Czech D1 and Main road(could be expressway) 6, our system is the best in surface quality and condition. Naturally the sections around Bratislava and Praha is very good, but the others...

Hmm... I have special feelings now, after returning from Czech Republic... The country itself is beautiful, and earlier I thought the same of the roads. As I saw from the photos the Czech forumers posted of the Czech Motorway system the northest CE member does a hell of a job extending its motorway system, and this is absolutely true! But what about the modernizing, refurbishment and taking care of the existing ones? For me, the Czech Republic always was the leading one, the one to be followed. Perhaps this is why I feel a bit disappointed...

Strongly in my opinion the quality of the surface of parts of the czech motorway system - except the bypass roads of Brno and Praha and a 50 km section before Praha on the D1 - is around average... :eek:hno: Not to mention the expressway section of Main road 6 from Praha till Karlovy Vary is below average... Ok. Around the airport the road towards Karlovy Vary is u/c.

My problem was the old concrete surface of the D1 which was like our M7 before the recontruction in 2002. Its from concrete elements, which could be well put together like at the new section of our M0, but its not like that. You can see huge gaps at some places... The asphalt corrections look very ugly on the "white" concrete, and its not well done eather. Its just not the same level... :eek:hno:

Unfortunately these problems dont really apear on the photos...

The bypass of Brno with these nice soundbarriers...

The "Ostatni tranzit", bypass of Praha...

Heading towards Karlovy Vary on the Praha bypass...

What the hell is this?!

Main road 6... :eek:hno:

^R6 Expressway is nearly nonexistant as is visible from the map

This place is interesting
D47 in Bohumín near Polis boarder, relaying of 1.st class road I/58 and future antiflood wall

this bunker built in 30's was used in new I/58 road, it was originally built as a fortification of main railway track running from Bohumín to at that time Germany (now Chalupki, Poland), embrasures were on both sides so that the enemy was not able to hide behind the embankments, railway track was ralayed in connection with D47 construction too

Above posted photos have been made at the end of September by our ceskedalnice.cz team. For detialed comments (but only in czech) you should take a look at galleries reg. parts 4708 and 4709.1 here: http://www.ceskedalnice.cz/fotostavba.htm .

Regarding the bridge, it is a very interesting and unique construction in this region. As for example these suspension parts contain 136 km of steel-wire ropes. For those who understand czech, i could recommend a few links:

Hi guys!!
How about final stretch of D47 from Bohumin to polish border? Did they start construction? Poland just signed contract with building company for construction of boder section (around 18 km) of our A1 motorway which connects with your D47.
Who builds bridge across Olza river? Poland or Czech Republic?

How many lanes D47 is going to have? 2 or 3?

#181 · (Edited)
D47 is 2x2 profile exc. the part from Lipnik to Belotin (15,4 km) that is going to be 2x3 due to higher traffic is expected.

As far as I know the border section construction haven't been started yet on both sides. All preparation stages should be completed including the land buy up on the Czech side. But I might be wrong.

No idea about the bridge...

Thanks for all infos guys:eek:kay:

One more question.
How about connection of Ostrava region with Zlina and northern Slovakia?
THere is a lot of investment in both regions (Hyundai and Kia are the biggest examples), some of the factories could closely cooperate.
Is there any motorway or expressway in plans??

#187 ·
Yes, those factories will closely cooperate. For example engines for both factories are being made in Teplička nad Váhom and gearboxes will be made in Nošovice. All supliers of Slovak Kia will be suppliers for Czech Hyundai as well so the traffic will be heavy there.
In Slovakia there is highway D3 from Hričovské Podhradie near Žilina to border crossing Skalité/Zwardon and short expressway R5 connection betwen that highway and Czech border.

Map of the nothern part of D3:

You can find the same map but interactive here: http://www.highways.sk/highways/KNM-Skalite.html
