Admittedly, my tastes tend to shift and be jingoistic but here they are:

(1) Chrysler Building, New York City, USA
(2) Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
(3) GT Tower, Makati, Philippines
(4) Bank of America, New York City, USA
(5) IFC, Hong Kong, China
(6) HSBC Building, Hong Kong, China
(7) Burj Al Arab, Dubai, UAE
(8) The Gherkin, London, United Kingdom
(9) Bank of China Building, Hong Kong, China
(10) Tower Verre, New York City, USA (Planned)

Been around a long time and rarely mentioned... but gorgeous and timeless.

Not bad for a 35 year old skyscraper.

Plus the real gold in the glazing, is not an urban myth: 2,500 oz (71,000 g) of gold used in the 14,000 windows.

At today's gold prices, that's $4 million of gold to tint the windows.

I don't like gold coloured buildings, but besides that, the design is good.

I remember seeing that building during my visit to Toronto, when I was younger, and being astounded since I'd never seen gold glass before.

I wonder if it could have looked better if they decided to go with the original 16 tube design. What do you think?
Aye? I'm embarressed to say but I've never heard of the 16 tube design. Anyone have a render of it?

Yeah, it was going to include residential units as well. The thing would have been the largest building in the world easily had they stuck to it. However, they abandoned that for some reason I can't remember and stuck with a 9-tube design. I'll see if I can find a link for it.

I used to find them vulgar and tacky, but I changed my mind after looking at Royal Bank Plaza in person. It's an elegant building; the colour adds warmth and layering to the city.
