Been around a long time and rarely mentioned... but gorgeous and timeless.
Not bad for a 35 year old skyscraper. Plus the real gold in the glazing, is not an urban myth: 2,500 oz (71,000 g) of gold used in the 14,000 windows. At today's gold prices, that's $4 million of gold to tint the windows. I don't like gold coloured buildings, but besides that, the design is good.

I remember seeing that building during my visit to Toronto, when I was younger, and being astounded since I'd never seen gold glass before.

Aye? I'm embarressed to say but I've never heard of the 16 tube design. Anyone have a render of it?

Yeah, it was going to include residential units as well. The thing would have been the largest building in the world easily had they stuck to it. However, they abandoned that for some reason I can't remember and stuck with a 9-tube design. I'll see if I can find a link for it.

I used to find them vulgar and tacky, but I changed my mind after looking at Royal Bank Plaza in person. It's an elegant building; the colour adds warmth and layering to the city.
