SEOUL - New Domed Ballpark (30,000)

Seoul Special City is in the process of constructing South Korea's first-ever domed baseball stadium.

It is currently being built on a 57,261 square meter lot in the Gocheok neighborhood of Seoul's Guro district. The total cost of the project, initially estimated at 52.9 billion won, will now cost an additional 30 million won to 40 million won. Once completed, the new stadium will replace the aging Dongdaemun Baseball Stadium.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place on April 15, 2009, and the dome is expected to be ready by September 2011.

Now during construction. But sadly stupid seoul's council(politian) cut off tax for domed ballpark. so it is little bit difficult.

In short word, Seoul's president push up for construction the other side seoul's council stop for construction. This is battle.

I'm sick and tired of seoul's council. Idiot politcian. They not only opposite ballpark but also opposite DDP(design center), dreamhub, han river renassance.

This stadium beside river(anyang chon) also very close to my house.

Some commercial company make pro-baseball team(like LA DOGESS) with same time stadium complete..But as You know this ballpark is not grand stadium. Just middle size. So commercial problem is hindrance.

On which streets in Seoul is this new ballpark being built on?

Is there a chance of it ever being completed?

Street? You're going to visit this stadium?

Go-chuck-dong, Guro district, Seoul. Or u just ask where is go-san elementary school(Guro district, seoul city).

Actually construction time table is complete in 2012. Already during construction so it will proceed eventhough council opposite.

No, I don't intend to visit this stadium. I live in the USA.

I just can't find the location of the construction site on Google Maps. I just want to know the exact location (on a map) of this stadium.

Will the dome on this new stadium be as high as the one on the Tokyo Dome?

Why Why Why do people keep building domed baseball stadiums? Baseball is meant to be played outside.

This is just a wild guess, but I think it has to do with the fact that Seoul has very cold whether between October and May.

From the Korean JoongAng Daily newspaper:

Quote:
While dome stadiums are no longer the popular choice in Major League Baseball, an enclosed stadium is needed during the monsoon season in Korea. Those in Guro District will also benefit from the new plan: An enclosed stadium helps contain noise and bright lighting, cutting down on its impact in the community.

I admit baseball have to play outside. But stadium is located in the middle of the city. So very sensitive about Noise.
In result doomstadium is best option for seoul.
Because this project's main purpose not only built for baseball stadium but also redevelopment of old district.
Actually there is some argue about this stadium's size. Stadium little bit small size.
so not good enough for play baseball.

The monsoon season typically begins in June and can last as long as two months, but intense rainfall occurs in July and August when heavy rains account for more than 50 percent of Korea's annual rainfall...

Was a retractable roof out of the question money-wise?

I'm not exactly sure... But this was the 1998 design for a Dome in Tuk Seom, Seoul:

I think the city always wanted an enclosed roof for the ballpark.
