WOW....thats one nice looking city. I have a question here. When looking over Indonisia pics at PBASE, they have pictures from a city called " padang". But, when you look closely, it is very similar to singapor. Can someone confirm that this city is in Indonisia and if it has alot of skyscrapers?

Thanks

Wow...the airport just amaze me. Okay, i admit when i first saw it i thought it was the ferry terminal. But still, this gotta be the most modern indonesian airport i've seen so far (in pictures or real life). I wonder if the new airports are as good as this one.

Nainawaaz, there is a city called Padang in Indonesia, it's on the island of Sumatra. However, I don't think that they have a lot of skyscrapers *someone correct me if i'm wrong*. Singapore, on the other hand, have an area called "Padang" as well, which is basically an open grass field in front of the former city hall building.

Here is a nice Pbase gallery:

That mosque is a bit like a smaller version of the Faisal Mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Also, here is a cool map:

Somehow, After watching the Kai Tak airport construction on NG channel, Batam island reminds me of Hong Kong. I dont know why. Maybe from the structure of the island in that map.

cheers

Heh, I was just thinking earlier of how it reminded me of Hong Kong. It has a lot of the same potential that Hong Kong earlier had. You might remember for about 25 years a big thing was "Made in Hong Kong." Well, nothing was ever made in Hong Kong, there are no factories there, but the territory made a lot of money from repackaging mainland China's goods. As a FTA area, and with such proximity to Singapore, Batam has explosive potential in similar areas. With the proper investment, they don't have to settle for simply being a cheap manufacturing hub for Singapore.

yep, Yamauchi. Batam has the potential to be to Singapore what Shenzhen is to Hongkong. ( just 20 years ago Shenzhen was a fishing town, now it is a rising city with many skyscrapers and just recently opened a subway line - went there around new year's). Problem is, it is under Indo govt management, not China. YOu know, things don't get done as quick in Indo as it is in China.

Hey Blaze,

Thanks for the info. You are right, the area " padang" is in singapore because in the picture, there is a open grass area infront of city hall.

Thanks again

Yeah, Alvin is right. But I see a bright future for Batam. Marie Pangestu is now trade minister and she of course will propose FTZ bill to be passed by DPR.

The last megawati administration actually rejected Batam's FTZ and not the DPR....so i think tomorrow future for Batam FTZ is very good.

cheers

The last pictures is Galang Island, used by the Vietnamese back in 1970s while civil war happened, before the world and developed countries open their country for refugees.. Many of stories happening in the island. I also have a pic of a small boat that the group (20-30 people) use, terrible...

Proyek Busway Terancam Gagal PDF Print E-mail
Rabu, 27 Juli 2005
BATAM- Proyek percontohan transportasi busway terancam gagal.
