Start Fitness - Carlliol House

Went in today and it's a clearance shop. Now I know where old stuff, Rugby WC 2015 etc, go to be sold off.
I was told they are not getting the footfall so will be closing in September.

Jobs go as fashion retailer Store Twenty One goes into liquidation

From today's Shields Gazette @ http://www.shieldsgazette.com/news/b...tion-1-8643732
Jobs go as fashion retailer Store Twenty One goes into liquidation
11 July 2017

Fashion retailer Store Twenty One has gone into liquidation, resulting in the loss of 900 jobs.

Its owner, Indian manufacturing giant Alok Group, failed to secure investment for the chain following a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) in 2016. As a result, corporate recovery firm Quantuma has been appointed to handle a liquidation process, which will see the closure of 122 stores and the loss of 900 jobs.

The chain has six North East stores, in Jarrow, Houghton-le-Spring, Peterlee, Chester-le-Street, Stanley and Blyth.

Quantuma partner Simon Bonney said: "It is very sad that matters have got to the stage where all the stores were closed by management on Friday following a prolonged period of uncertainty leading up to the liquidation. "We are now in the process of conducting an orderly wind-down and we would welcome contact from any interested parties who may wish to purchase assets of the company."

The loss-making store has found high street trading tough in recent years and its owners have struggled to keep the firm afloat. Its store in King Street, South Shields, closed in June last year as the owners fought to save the company from going into administration. In April, the company's management filed a notice to appoint administrators after Store Twenty One was served with a winding-up notice by HM Revenue & Customs for breaching the terms of the CVA.

They used to do this before in a limited form. Way back there used to be Sears stores with a bundle of their brands in one unit.

These photographs of the premises taken yesterday morning, 18th July 2017 - up for short term lease.

Had to smile at the adjustment to the former Northern Juice sign.

Photographs taken yesterday, 18th July 2017 of the soon to be Computer Exchange, Northumberland Street.

I can remember many moons ago using their shop in London's Tottenham Court Road to buy 2nd hand PC games before they expanded northwards.

Ladbrokes -Pilgrim Street

I see this shop has closed and signs removed.
A few years ago there were fears about the numbers of betting shops in town centres including Newcastle.
Think 'peak betting shops' must have been reached with more online and moblile betting.
So, just as McColl takes up the empty shop next door another unit becomes available.

It might be due to Ladbrokes buying Coral in 2015. Isn't there some regulation about the number of stores in the same area which they may exceed since the merger? I thought the number of betting shops was always on the increase as they are only allowed two self play machines in each shop?

Well the name Computer Exchange is stuck in my memory - must be back in the 1990's when I used to pop into their Tottenham Court Road shop for PC games when I worked one week every month in London.

Newcastle United legends cut the ribbon on barbershop named in honour of Pavel Srnicek

Newcastle United legends cut the ribbon on barbershop named in honour of Pavel Srnicek

Pavel's barber shop on Percy Street, Newcastle and Pavel Srnicek (inset)

A trio of Toon legends turned out for the opening of a new barbershop named in honour of the late great Pavel Srnicek.

Pavelís Gents Hairdressers opened this weekend on Percy Street, a stoneís throw from the ground where Pav became a fan favourite. John Beresford, Keith Gillespie and Darren Peacock, all regulars during the Toonís 90s golden years, played alongside the Czech keeper.

He died in December 2015 at the age of 47 after suffering a heart attack while out having a run.

A similar barbershop was opened in Forest Hall last year by Stefan Brown, an old friend of the late footballer. He said the success and warm reception it got made expanding to the city centre make sense, leading him to take over the old Magic Box shop in the city centre. Pav was a friend of mine so itís just about trying to keep his memory alive. spoke to his brother about the idea and he broke down in tears . Itís amazing to be able to do this so close to the stadium.Ē

As well as getting a trim, Toon fans can also see a host of classic Newcastle memorabilia dating back to the Keegan years.

The two galleries/picture shops on Grey Street (corner of high bridge), the one to the left has moved into Fenwick, where they already had a concession, there is big window adverts up in the windows on grey street to say it has closed and to go to Fenwicks
