And with perfect timing, UNSW confirms that there is money in education:

http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act-...15-gxwbzb.html

If this goes ahead then it will be a huge boon for both urban regeneration along Constitution Avenue and the ACT economy in general (diversifying away from public service). A second major university campus in Civic will also do wonders for activation and vibrancy.

Hmm, would be a great boost for the city.

Though surely they would have to come to some arrangement with the neighbours on either side to build something worthwhile? Can't have a $100m 5 star hotel sandwiched between a couple of crappy, two level, run-down 60s era buildings.

Curious that the article doesn't mention a further 2 hotel developments in Civic: the refurbishment of that multi-storey tower on London Cct opposite the Waldorf (corner of Akuna St) that is currently underway, and on the same block, the redevelopment of the building along City Walk into Quest Apartments (DA published today).

True. But by now I have no faith that final stage will ever actually be built!

lol. They will have to build it at some point or sell it to someone who will. They're already 12 months into their latest approval extension. ACT Government is going to start getting shitty with them if they push it out even further, it's now been something like 6 or 7 years since they got their first approval for the site.

The most recent approved version has a 5 level basement so it'll take them at least 3 years to actually build the damn thing once they start.

Demoltion is also almost complete for On Forbes in Turner.

They added about 20 metres of boom to the crane at Dickson at the Malabar job on Saturday. And a few extra counterweights.

Sorry, but it's not due to even start construction until later this year (next month I think), so won't be finished until 2019-20.

There's plenty of new apartment blocks around the city though, so lots of choice in completed or nearly complete projects.

Interesting that Next Hair in Braddon is closing. The article in the paper implies that there's a six level building going up on the site (34-36 Mort St), which was sold for $11.5 million in July.

That would spell the end of Knightsbridge and a couple of other businesses as well.

Interesting proposal to develop a height-limit building on the little block behind 221 London Cct.

Ground floor retail, 8 levels parking, 2 levels office then 6 levels apartments.

Sounds like they really needed a carpark for 221 London Cct and thought '**** it, lets put some offices and apartments on top'

Its a strange spot... Why would you want to live in that area? Very dark and cold in winter.
