Proposals & Construction: 250m-299m skyscrapers

Aurora (269m) just passed the 100m mark and its mega set of yellow safety screens are fully assembled ..

.. and behind those screens these bad boys are being installed on the corners as we speak ..

Yep not often you see curved glass on any building in Australia - not leave about 240m (ie. Level 10 to 92) sheer vertical of it !!

Great to see curved glass being used, I was sad to see that Aus 108 was only using straight glass.

Hmm interesting, curved panels looks cool BUT why are they dirty grey/green and not blue/violet. Did they change the colour? The colour in the renderings is far superior.

All this interesting stuff going up in Melbourne once again cements Sydney as the capital of boring shite IMO.

I know i'm a bit biased, but this will seriously be one of the best looking buildings in Australia once finished...

It has so many different little things going on to keep you very excited !

I think Sydney's Crown will be a stunner, plus it IS actually underway. Given the state of Crown's high roller business, I can't see a start on their Melbourne one any time soon.

Be careful Av, there's a couple of wombats around who will happily bore you to death with all sorts of negative drivel for even daring to think something pro-Melbourne.

By the way, there are a couple of spectacular towers ready to go in Sydney, Quay Quarter will be suburb if it's not dumbed-down.

Avatar, you seem way too down on your home town. Some truly great stuff coming to Sydney:

Quay Quarter:

Crown Sydney:

Renzo Piano's One Sydney Harbour:

Ritz Carlton:

Heck, Circular Quay tower is imposing (if a bit plain), I like it:

505 George Street could be another big one coming up (260/270m). More stuff mooted as well.

The above projects are excellent, if you don't want them in Sydney we'll take them here in Melbourne

Mid 2018 start was mooted for One Queensbridge at the approval launch back in February. For the moment I am still hopeful for that.

Note, One Queensbridge is a 50-50 joint venture between Crown and Schiavello (who did Prima/Pearl by themselves without Crown). Also, there will be no gaming/gambling component to One Queensbridge; it is an apartment/hotel tower. Note, Crown hotels are running at max capacity even though high roller revenue is down.

No bad vibes redden, only good thoughts, no jinxing

P.S. The Queens Place delay is enough sadness, please no more.

Aurora Melbourne Central will use four different shades of Indigo over the full height of the tower.

Lighter Indigo at the top (and more transparent).
Deeper Indigo at the bottom (but lower reflectivity).

These bespoke coatings (unique to Aurora) also combine a green element when viewed from an angle. So Aurora will be mixture of green and indigo, aka the colors of an aurora (there will be no blue color here):

From this angle the Aurora base looks deep indigo:

But from this angle it looks green:

See here for the architectural plans for the shades that will be used:

What is extra cool is that Aurora will actually use real curved glass for the edges (as noted by A-brain). At least for Melbourne, that is unique and will be a stand out feature of this superb tower, you can just see the curved glass here under the screens:

We are very excited here in Melbourne about this beauty. Note, at 286m RL, it will only be 14m shorter than Eureka on the skyline since it sits on much higher ground.

Lastly, let's not forget the active vertical LEDs for a night time light show:

I'm the same with my footy team (the perennially disappointing Saints). Don't expect too much, then it's a nice surprise when they come up trumps!

Aurora really is going to be one of the best looking towers in the country, that's some primo glass.

Fantastic shot of Aurora, courtesy of _mark. Looks massive, even now.

Do you remember where, red? I've been wondering when it would lift its head enough to be noticed, apart from our usual shots in La Trobe, A'Beckett and Franklin. I have to use Birdwood Ave, around near the Shrine, lately, because Domain Road has been closed for the Metro. I've been wondering if the Melbourne Central tower will obscure most of Aurora from the Shrine or if it will appear slightly to the right. I guess that's Zen just to the right of MC and the Arts Spire.
