Isn't this the programme that was being filmed this summer at the old La Sagesse Girls Convent School that is now owned by Freddy Shepherd?

When I was a young lad I lived around the corner from there . . . what can I say!!!

We need a really good drama/comedy series set in Newcastle.

TV wise our profile has dropped down several notches over the years to almost nothing.

Without Tyne Tees TV really existing any more (it just does a bit of 'local news' now) we are dependent upon a London-based person, in one organisation or another, thinking . . . "Let's film something, for a change, in NEWCARSSSELL!"

Which will not and therefore 'does not' happen very often!

Great early 90's kids TV! Filmed outside IIRC just to the left of TTTV over the big wall.

Also, I remember watching 'Late Night Legends', cant believe it was 9 years ago though!!!!!

Essentially, after a series of mergers throughout ITV, Tyne Tees was taken over by Yorkshire TV. Then, in the years after that, Yorkshire/Tyne Tees and all the rest became part of the nationally run "ITV" channel, that we have now.

There are SOME "regional studios" around the country still, but ITV is now (as far as I know) all one company, and the regions mostly just do local news.

Major 'programme production' studios are centred on Manchester and London, with a few bits elsewhere.

It is a LONG WAY from the (GREAT) Tyne Tees Music Days of the 1980s, along City Road, when Tyne Tees was an independent company! The best ITV/Channel 4 National Music Programmes, were for a time, made here in NEWCASTLE.

The big studios on City Road have been closed, and all they have is a small 'Digital Studio' for the local news, near the MetroCentre.

The full story can be read here . . . http://www.transdiffusion.org/tmc/cityroad/history/

Since we were (only yesterday) talking about the 'demise' of Tyne Tees TV in this "Media Thread" (see post immediately above) I thought I would reply to you in here Johnny.

All I can say is SAD.

To me, this just looks so sad.

what intrigues me is there's no public plans for a replacement. Buccleuch need to put out some PR.

Take about making a hole in the streetscape! Why even bother demolishing it if they plan nothing to replace it!??!

they do have plans they've just not made anything public as of yet. but if they are going to demolish much loved pieces of newcastle history, ie egypt cottage, then they need to let the newcastle public know what is going on.

As there looks like there is going to be a 'demolition' and 'something being built' - should we set up a project thread for it?

EG . .

Tyne Tees TV Studios | Newcastle | Demolition

What do you think?

GEORDIE PRIDE.

OK, perhaps this should be in the NUFC thread, but I found it because of its name, and it seems to be 'more' than just about football to me, so I posted it here . . .
