Ochre Yards, Bellway private housing development, Gateshead - ongoing work as at 15/04/13

Further to my posting on this project, # 9 on 09/04/13 (former Gateshead Developments post #1018 on 09/04/13)

I append a few pictures (hosted on Photobucket) taken Monday 15/04/13 approx 1915, taken "close up" to show steelwork that can be seen on post 1018 as viewed from point near St Cuthberts Court, Windmill Hills ( just left of block in background 1st picture)

In response to query on post 1019 about metro tunnel and location to the development these pictures show the paved/planted area under which the metro travels and that separates the block being built and the block last completed

Ochre Yards, Bellway private housing development, Gateshead

Further to my last posting on this project, #1331 on 24/10/13

Viewed the Bellway website for this scheme http://www.bellway.co.uk/new-homes/n...st/ochre-yards and came across this Site Plan - screen print to show here

Names the block under construction and covered in recent posts as "Midlothian Court" and shows the other blocks set to built at west end of area

This scheme started in 2003 and the most recent image (some time ago) available from Google Maps is as these screen prints

The area used to be the Greenesfield Railway Depot/Sheds as can be screen print of this Newcastle & Gateshead 1894 map from the Godfrey Series

All of the Planning Applications associated with the scheme can be viewed on http://public.gateshead.gov.uk/onlin...riteria.page=1

All images hosted on Photobucket

NH / Steve

In the light of the continued scheme perhaps time to create a separate project thread totled "former Greenesfield Railway Depot - Ochre Yards, Gateshead - housing regeneration" or similar

Previous posts on scheme are:-

Affordable Housing - Page 5 post number 97

Gateshead Developments - first post page 23 post number 455 followed by posts 617, 633, 723, 919 (showing start of Midlothian Court), 983, 1008, 1019, 1020, 1022, 1024, 1129, 1201, 1224, 1250, 1331

Yes, I have been thinking of doing this myself anyway, for Ochre Yards, though with "Gateshead Developments Thread" projects I do tend to wait for a main poster (usually you Ken) to suggest it.

Seems to work well, that way.

Now, with the "SSC presumption towards individual threads for PROJECTS" and the size and interesting nature of this one, I think it is well worth it!

Leave it with me

NH.

Ref "with the "SSC presumption towards individual threads for PROJECTS" and the size and interesting nature" I will when bad weather stops me getting out with camera (think Monday coming) look through thread and find posts associated with the following Gatesahead projects:-

Staiths South Bank ( knowing that there has been talk of setting this one up in the past)

Bishops Park Ph 1 and 2 Housing scheme, Sunderland Rd

The Freight Depot site - has clearance ongoing at present and is one of Gateshead Council first picks for "new housing development"

KEN

Yes, I remember discussing "Staiths South Bank" as a potential Project Thread, some time back.

For now, I'll get on with "Ochre", Cheers Ken.

Herewith new "Ochre Yards" Project Thread, for ongoing use wef today (Saturday 26th October 2013).

I will COPY our discussions (above) about the SSC presumption towards individual threads for PROJECTS into the ADMIN THREAD, to continue it on there.

This is a useful opportunity to discuss the evolution of emerging projects from the 'Development Threads' into their own 'Project Threads' - depending on the size and significance of works, etc . . .

Ochre Yards Housing - how it used to look as Greenesfield Railway Depot

Now that a new thread set up for this development seems appropriate to show what the area used to be like before construction started in 2003

Lots of images of the former railway buildings (some demolished, others refurbished for housing) in these "Railway" videos as displayed on You Tube

Class 31, 37, 45, 46, 47 in the North East (Gateshead Depot GD) 1983 from jake atkinson

GATESHEAD DEPOT 10/89 from RUSSANDTILLY

Gateshead loco depot 1991 from trev68e

Other photographic images on the Gateshead Council ISee Gateshead site on http://isee.gateshead.gov.uk/info.ph...=all&t=objects

and no doubt many others available on "Railway" sites, especially using "Greenesfield Traction Maintenance Depot", Gateshead TMD or "52A" (its depot code number) in search

and on these sites

Ochre Yards, Bellway private housing development, Gateshead - ongoing work as at 24/05/14

Over 4 weeks on from my last posting on this project with pictures, #38 of 18/04/14 I append some more of my pictures taken Saturday 24/05/14 AM from various locations including on the Windmill Hills area, looking across the Tyne, and from Askew Rd, through the fence of recently completed Rail Depot and close up, so as to show current position of the works

Current being constructed block

Next block - piling just underway

The last 2 blocks of the development - as shown on marked up by myself picture of site plan on display in sales office

Was informed that project likely to be on site for a further 4 years, as remaining 2 blocks to be built consecutively (not concurrent) and last part of development will be to this former railway building looking over the Tyne
