To reply to the last question from "Bureau des etrangers" on Development Thread 33.

The loft apartments on Holloways Head are going in this building

I believe it used to be the Debenhams storage building.

Given that cancellations, downsizing and more "fantasy" developments are prevalent these days than any actual progression to new developments, it's probably a deliberate and correct omission.

Just been scanning the Leeds metro site.
Must say the city as some very lofty ambitions.
They had a couple of really tall plans at the same time as we had Arena Central, but fell apart during the downturn, but they now have a number of really exciting proposals
One the South Bank masterplan envisages four towers between 30 and 50 storeys, yes probably depends on HS2 reaching them, but very impressive, and at least they're aiming high, if they get one out of the ground that will be an improvement on what we have in the pipeline.
It would be nice to see some ambitious proposals for Brum like in the good old days, aiming above 30 storeys if nothing else, at least it would give us something to get the "feel good" factor back.

A warning here and now. Most of the proposals for tall and grandiose schemes are usually relatively small developers increasing the potential value of their land to make their books look good and they will not happen.

The ones by respectable developers are the ones to watch.

I for one would rather see quality than quantity or height. My fears for Eastside are reduced because of who owns the land out there.

Oooh! I like (not necessary the aesthetic but) ACTIVE FRONTAGES!!! It helps put in the missing pieces along this street since the flyover/subways were removed. Always seemed like a dead corner.

Snobs opposite will add to the vibrancy of the area too, day and night.

I wish the Holliday Inn would do something with that useless space fronting the Queensway and Hill Street. Unless you look up you actually wouldn't even know there was a hotel there! For me the hidden entrance is quite awful.
Don't know what's right behind that L shaped space but a small coffee outlet or even a convenience store would enliven that redundant space .and bring some vibrancy at street level

They put in an application some months back to create a restaurant for the hotel on that corner I think, and to make a new entrance on Hill Street.
