A few from Feb 2008

These are a few pictures I took when I took some friends around the city. It is not uncommon for me to subject visitors to my flat to a 5 hour walking tour and history lesson!

nice pics fellas. Love Tynemouth.

Hollow - when are you getting round to putting up a new picture thread? I loved seeing your earlier tours and they went down pretty well at skyscraperpage.com

Great pictures there. That picture of Clayton St makes it a shame that none has cleaned that place up, because it show how much of a great st that can actually be.

clayton street is FAR cleaner than it was even a decade or so ago. it was a realy tip before the grainger street project cleaned the facades, chopped down the numerous plants and even trees growing out of the upper floor windows.

Photosynth

For those who enjoy messing around with photos, Microsoft (yes, I know...) have a pretty cool (and free) application called 'Photosynth'. You take loads of pictures of an object or building, and the program recognises the textures and stitches the images together to create a 3D model.

This is the link to the main page:
http://photosynth.net/default.aspx

You might need to download a plug-in (called 'Silverlight'?) to create or view the images.

And this is the link to a synth I've created based on some old 35mm photos:
http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=...e-adecbee7b563

Other people have done various ones in and around Newcastle. This is a good one round Grey's Monument:
http://photosynth.net/view.aspx?cid=...0-240054d55c26

If you go to the icons below the photo's and choose 'Overhead' or 'Point Cloud' you get a pretty cool idea of how the program works.

You can geo-reference the images on Bing Maps, though if you access these images via Bing there's not as much functionality looking through the images:
http://www.bing.com/maps/explore/#58...ee7b563&o=&a=0

Hours of fun. It's a bit like the scene in Bladerunner where he's panning and zooming in-out of an image.

I'm hoping to create a few more images on this over the next few weeks.

interesting. will be great once there's hundreds of pics of grey's monument and not just a dozen or so, and you could circle around it smoothly. i saw bing maps preview this technology a few years back and surprised i've not seen much about it since then.

"Open Wide" . .

I didn't take this, wish I had, but this is one of my favourite photos of the Millenium Bridge, like a giant pair of JAWS, about to swallow you whole!
